Just to point out Hitler was Austrian and not German, and was a meglamanic sociopath, he had no love of his "adopted" country, or its people, who he sent to their death in millions too.
Your attempt at humour , as well as being humourless, and in poor taste also was factually inaccurate

Swords has fallen straight into the Godwins Law trap and wins todays prize
    Godwin's law

    Mike Godwin (2010)
Godwin's law (or Godwin's rule of Nazi analogies)[1][2] is an Internet adage asserting that "As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches 1"[2][3]—that is, if an online discussion (regardless of topic or scope) goes on long enough, sooner or later someone will compare someone or something to Hitler or Nazism.

Promulgated by American attorney and author Mike Godwin in 1990,[2] Godwin's Law originally referred specifically to Usenet newsgroup discussions.[4] It is now applied to any threaded online discussion, such as Internet forums, chat rooms, and blog comment threads, as well as to speeches, articles, and other rhetoric.[5][6]

In 2012, "Godwin's Law" became an entry in the third edition of the Oxford English Dictionary.[7]

It may well have been in poor taste but it was not factually inaccurate. Adolf Hitler had a frenzied, fanatical pride in his Country (adopted or otherwise) brought about by its humiliation after WW1, so much so that millions joined him in his crusade and we all know how that turned out. The point you're missing Betty is that the crudeness was in the statement made by COL and my reply was purposely equally crude to expose that. I find the statement "I have the utmost respect for anyone who is proud of their Country" (and indeed most of what COL writes) as jingoistic and dangerous at best and downright catastrophic (as my example showed) at worst.

COL can fawn at the feet of everyone who's proud of their Country regardless of what their Country gets up to - good or bad - but that kind of primitive tribalism has no truck with me.

(Rules, please do not be polite on my behalf. I neither ask for it nor desire it Sir <ok>)

I don't really care if you don't care about it but pride myself in my own behaviour. And just so you know, I have my 7 year old son in the room and thanks to your extremely poor taste I have had to deflect and lie to him as I don't wish him to know about want went on at his age.

Shame on you for having your child looking at an internet Site on which adults discuss adult subjects. You knew full well that every kind of discussion is had on here yet you had your child reading it. Online Forums are not appropriate for children and you should know that.

(Besides it was a picture of a fully clothed man, not a naked lady........or worse)

No truth in what Godwin said. He's just a US lawyer trying to curtail free speech. He can be compared to...to...to the Nazi's in my view

So Swordsy, I was interested in your question...so I typed it into ask Jeeves.

Why did Hitler like Germay so much, bearing in mind he wasn't German..The answer is quite feasible...

He spoke German, most Austrians do - but he was a TOTAL failure in Austria, he couldn't get a job and couldn't get into the art school he wanted to enter. So he immigrated to Germany looking for work. When WWI came he enlisted in the German Army and became a successful war hero - naturally he liked Germany.

Also even at the height of his popularity it was estimated less than 40% of the population supported him, (My Dad always said that after the war, when he was over there in 1945 you never met a German who actually supported Hitler....???

Shame on me!!!! I won't lower myself to personal insults but you are the first person on here to make me want to. He wasn't reading it but the pic was rather large and it prompted him to ask who it was. How did I know you'd come up with some sanctimonious crap. You really are full of yourself. Well after starting out on the BBC site and crossing over here, I am so close to finally having enough of this place. Or should I say the self absorbed attitude of some of the posters. Can't be wrong, can you, in any circumstance. You speak of the right for people to say what they want, and I wouldn't disagree, but with rights comes responsibilities but in you arrogance that seems to have slipped your thinking.

Congratulations Swords yet another poster you've antagonised.......you really can't help yourself can you, just light the blue touch paper and stand back.......

What Quality Passing Rules has posted above is spot on about you and you really should consider your actions before posting, after all why shouldn't Rules lad be looking at the computer with suitable parenting guidance? This thread was about the Villa manager Tim Sherwood but somehow you've managed to turn it into a thread about Hitler and have another dig at Col..........

It's all You, You, You isn't it unlike Tim Sherwood who's all Me, Me, Me......

Now I suggest you apologies to Rules for your sanctimonious posts about him........

Apologies for intervening in a heated debate, and Quality, I have no wish to interfere with how you educate your son, but rather than lying to him about Hitler, wouldn't it be preferable to inform him Hitler was an evil man who led Germany to a disasterous World War in the middle of last century and many people died as a result of his actions. Your son's going to hear about Hitler from older children at school anyway, so you might as well forewarn him (without going into sordid details obviously). Just a thought...

Godwin's rule also states that Adel T. is as likely to get mentioned as well.
(There you go, I just proved the theory (or axiom) to be correct)

I won't see it as I've got him on ignore. The first time I've felt compelled to do such a thing. Not that I want his apology anyway. Would be done through gritted teeth and the fact someone else would have had to get him to do it would make it disingenuous anyway. But thanks for asking him too.
