Lads we've just out played the team that will probably end up Champions.

That is a fantastic platform to build on.

Kone was a beast, Kirchhoff was excellent and Khazri looked dangerous and made things happen when he had the ball.

For Saturday drop Lens for Khazri and Jones for Yedlin (Jones was awful tonight and think Yedlin is the better wingback).

Keep the faith, it's not over yet by a long shot.

I thought we played well, Kirchhoff looked like Franz Beckenbauer at times - maybe a slight over exaggeration but he was my man of the match.
We can certainly do some damage to Liverpool.

Really enjoyed the game tonight. Kharzi looks like he will be very good, he's direct, likes beating a man and is strong too. Kone is a beast, when he flattened Yaya, that was the highlight of my night. A few of his headers were a bit clumsy mind but an improvement on what we have.

Borini should start from the bench from now on, he offers nothing and has been ineffective since he came back to us. Again, I thought Lens did ok. He's showing more effort now and I hope we continue with him. Jones had a really good game today, he was always looking to get forward and defended well too.

Cattermole, he got outshone today. We all knew M'Vila was next level, now Kirchoff looks to also be next level if he can maintain that performance tonight. Going forward, Kirchoff and M'Vila need to be our centre midfield. ****ing hell, a top 6 team would be proud to show that off!

Man City deserved **** all tonight, their players were diving, cheating bastards and their support is a joke. Going after 4 trophies, including being favourites for the Premier league and they sell just over half their tickets. What's that about? Barely heard them all game as well.

Well done Ellis. Well done Margaret - well if you two can take the flak for a bad performance then you deserve the credit for a good one, too. That's only fair. Well done, supporters - you were poor to start with because the team had delivered poor performances, and warmed up later because a much improved team earned it tonight. That was only fair too I think.

Take my previous comments back on Kirchoff and put my hands up and apologize. Didn't see his first performance coming at Spurs and the same with tonight....the lad is a beast. When Kone put Toure on his ass brought back memories...Joe Bolton would be proud...all round great performance tonight...

Well, just watched the match (0345 is a little to late for me to stay up for on a schoolnight!) and I really enjoyed that game. Despite the loss, I haven't seen us play like that in so so long. We played as a team, with a never surrender attitude, and we actually played football - none of this sit back, defend and then hope to counter. Admittedly Defoe as a lone striker isn't going to win us games, and there was still too many lumped balls up front that Defoe wasn't going to win.

Sam's new signings. What the **** was Congers playing at? Kone for 5million. Kirchoff for 750k. Khazri for cheaper than Rodwell. If we had gotten in Allardyce in the summer, and he had the full summer to pick targets, we wouldn't be in this mess. Shipped out 8 players we hope to never see back at the SoL (Gooch exempt), and brought in 3 players who improve us straight away. After his debut at Spurs, things looked shaky for Jan - but one swallow doesn't make a summer and he's proven that. Absolutely class. Tackles, passing, composure on the ball. And it was against some of the best attackers/midfielders in the world. Kone - what a ****ing beast. That tackle on Toure will go down in folklore. You could hear the wind being knocked out of Yaya from across the stadium, and Yaya is no small man. Think that made Toure think twice about going near Kone after that. Khazri looked promising. His set pieces were fantastic (his free kick maybe not so much), but you could tell what he was trying to do at the corners and had Hart worried. Him in the ACM role and we will score the goals.

I felt that with Kone and O'Shea in defence, with Jan in front, we felt alot safer to press and attack. PvA was outstanding today, the lad just keeps getting better. Defensively he was better, but it's in attack he shines. He spent a lot more time up the field, as did Jones. The two Jan's covered the back really well, and Jones and PvA spent most of their time in attack. Jones still offers little in the final third imo, although he got into a good position to hit the post, and have another effort saved by Hart. Can see why BSA was looking at a right back. Catt's position is now in doubt. I would have loved to have gotten a new CM who was a box-to-box, or deep lying playmaker to release the wingers and attack. I feel with Jan, Jann, and Catts it is too defensive. Although Kirchoff was good at spotting passes and getting forward. Jan played well, defo room for improvement though. He needs to up his workrate. Thought we looked a little more dangerous when AJ came on.

City I don't think were prepared for us. They maybe came into this thinking we were going to be a push over. Apart from the goal, they had a couple of other chances, but didn't look like a team pushing for the title. They are great actors, and the amount of time they wasted at the end was testament to how worried we had them. Otamendi and DiMichelis are ****s. Putting Defoe against them on his own, and they bitch about flailing arms... twats.

Overall very happy. If we play like that against some of the lesser teams, we will pick up points. Hopefully the new guys dont fall in to the trap of not giving a **** when it's against the smaller teams (which is a big problem we have), and we can beat those around us and pick up points against the top teams.

My fear is that IF we go down, we are going to lose the likes of Kone (who knows what the clauses are in his contract), Kirchoff, Mvila, Defoe, PvA, Khazri - all of whom are what we should be building around. IF we do go down, keep BSA, keep these guys, and get in some players hopefully we are up at the first attempt and can push on. I really hope we aren't going down, but we need to be realistic. Bournemouth picking up points is ****, although hopefully Skunks, Norwich, Swansea and Villa are all down amongst it at the end of the season. Will be interesting to see how Newcastle's new signings fair.

Oh, and what a goal from Vardy!

Unlucky guys, sounds like you gave everything and left empty handed. Unfortunately that's the sign of a true champion, playing bad and winning games. It sounds like the new lads have settled well and understand exactly what is required of them.

Here's to hoping you spank the skip rats and the following game should be a good one, we absolutely annihilated Stoke and played our best football of the season. Might as well change Martial's name to Martian because he's on a different planet at the minute.

First 20 mins i felt you gave us too much respect & space to play in and found yourselves a goal down, yaya had far too much time unchallenged on the ball.
Once Allardyce addressed that and Cattermole started to chase and harry Sunderland were by far the better side
As i alluded to in the above post the way to play City is precisely as you did from then on as we can be outfought such is the lack of backbone at times from men like yaya who simply isnt up for a battle

Just shows how people have different opinions - I though Jones was awful tonight. Would rather Yedlin played if we're going to play with Kirchhoff as a DM who can drop back in the CB position when the full backs go forward.

I'd rather we drop Lens for Khazri personally but agreed about Catts, Kirchoff & M'Vila are a level above that's for sure.

If we'd had Sam at the start of the season - who knows where we'd be now? (and if my aunty had balls etc!)

That team last night was immense - as complete a team performance as I can remember from Sunderland. Jones distribution was poor but he hit the post and had a shot very well saved! Defensively he was very good though.

Kirchhoff - I said after his debut that I thought he would be a good player - turns out I was right!! (I often am - just don;t tell the italian redhead - I miss him)
Kone - other than his 50p head he was very good - Yaya stayed away from him after that challenge!

Interesting that we had 49% possession - I can;t remember the last time we had 49% possession in a game let alone in a game against one of the best sides!! 11 shots (although only 2 on target) Defoe was very isolated but pulled their defence all over the place - just wish he'd been turning on his right foot for the one clear chance he had - we just sat a little deep to start with as @Paulpowersleftfoot said - stood off too much until Catts got in among it.

For me, against your possession bossing sides, (City/Arsenal etc.) same central midfield as yesterday - against the (with due respect) Norwich's, Villa, Newcastle etc sides, Cattermole on the bench and AJ or someone like in that role. If we keep Kirchhoff and fit then I can say comfortably that we have 2 of the best CMs I've ever seen at the club and a beast of a centre-half in Kone!
