Big win - scrappy maybe 2nd half after a decent opening 45 but a good job done!

 

Calf strained in training yesterday.

 

Watford striker Troy Deeney, speaking to MOTD: "It is a massive win. We target teams in and around us to take the points and it was a well deserved victory, and a well fought one.

"I thought we dominated the first half, but when they got a goal at the end of the half we knew a reaction was coming so it was about managing that.

Watford keeper Heurelho Gomes: "We knew we needed to be sharp and play well and that is exactly what we did.

"The goal they scored at the end of the first half gave them a lift but we defended very well and took our opportunities.

"The most important thing is to avoid relegation, but I believe we can do more than that

Well they stole 3 pts from us at home .And i did warn everyone the the grim reaper is now back in the U.S.A. and will not see any more games this season so its COYH and Wembley here we come or Europe or both LOL

 

Alan Shearer was very complimentary about TD - most of the ex players in the media love him. Shame they never asked Roy Hodgson what he thought of him!

 

We did

Well, we attended. I saw the equaliser and Deeney's winner clearly enough but not a lot else. Shocking view.

 

As to the referee I thought the penalty was a good call. All too often not given. Other than that several things left me unimpressed:
Jedinak should have been cautioned on numerous occasions and at the very least for persistent infringement.
He pulled back play on three or four occasions when we had an attacking position and clear advantage. And then failed to apply the appropriate sanction.
Suarez YC smacked of trophy hunting by the referee, especially given everything that went on before.
Timekeeping????????

On a positive note the red card was spot on too. I can't help but think if he had done his job properly that tackle might not have been made.

 

I noticed the sending off actually gave them more time to score which almost happened!

Now that would have been really harsh..

A post match interview with Flores popped up on my Facebook page. Now since Flores is impossible to understand in these interviews (" mutter, mutter, amazing, mutter mutter" ...) I used the subtitle facility. But the subtitle technician could not understand him either. Hence Troy Deeney comes out as " Droid DNA" --a Star wars character?

Tend to agree on his leniency and timekeeping. Shearer was supporting of the Pen call, need more sanctions against grabbers & shirt pullers.
Did anyone notice that Prodl (I think) had a hold of Deeneys shirt, just before the Pen? Odd.

I am amazed that there has been no comment on Palace's (lack of) defending for our 2nd goal. Leaving TD all on his own that close to goal is asking for trouble.

 

Yes they missed him completely... I bet he was having a little laugh!
