Wtf is going on? As Brixham Saint said, there's too much smoke here for there to be no fire. Why would Koeman leave us with a year left on his contract to sign for Everton? Everton?! Even though I'm sure we could find another manager on Koeman's level, this could be bad news for squad morale and motivation, and it can't be a good signal about goings on at the club that Koeman would want to leave us...for Everton!
Okay, so to summarise my take on everything (as I've had people online asking, and because it just sets the record straight... I have five questions to ask. And five facts to present. Questions 1 - How comes there are no quotes from Koeman's agent (Rob Janssen of Wasserman) if he's supposedly been giving interviews today? 2 - Koeman is massive in Holland. Why is just one person over there claiming that he's on his way, yet no one else is covering it? 3 - Story was only briefly in today's Mirror. Still no other coverage elsewhere at the moment. All very quiet here and in Holland. Why? 4 - Doesn't seem to be in-keeping in the slightest with recent statements from Les Reed and yesterday's piece in the Telegraph. Why has this come out? 5 - Why are people placing such importance on betting? If we all chuck £10 on Mancini, guess what? He'll edge in as a favourite? Facts A - Koeman only flew back from his holiday in Saint Barthélemy on Tuesday evening. It takes at least 13hrs to get back to the UK. B - Koeman and Saints directors had talks before his holiday. His agents, and lawyers, then commenced contract negotiations with Saints. C - Koeman is currently represented by Wasserman, and Rob Janssen is one of the leading agents working within Wasserman. D - A formal contract offer was made to Wasserman/Koeman, from Saints, on Friday afternoon. It's only been three working days since. E - Contract negotiations will drag, as paperwork goes back & forth countless times with alterations to wording, details, numbers. Summary It's way too early to be fretting over this.
1) Where was Pochettinos agents quotes about him going for an interview with Spurs? Where were Mourinhos agents quotes about going to Utd? All of this stuff is leaked through intermediaries for any number of reasons. 2) A bit soon to dismiss it due to lack of coverage, the 'news' has only just broken. 3) see 2 4) Didn't Reed say something similar re Clyne? I felt that interview he gave about contract talks a little worrying if anything, if everything was OK then why do they need to come out and say so? Could just be PR from the club to let them know we offered a new deal and it's out of their hands. 5) I don't personally, but people don't tend to put large amounts of money on these things at short odds if they've not heard something. Not enough time has passed for the market change to be due to a large number of people putting small bets on.
I agree with most of what you say, there's usually no smoke without fire though. I wouldn't be surprised or worried either way what happens at this point.
Koeman said he's seeing out his deal, minimum. We haven't sacked him. He's not imminently joining Everton.
As I said many pages ago, if RK stays, then great, and if he leaves, then life and SFC will go on. We've had 2 great seasons from RK, and the trend of modern day football and managers, is that they don't hang around for long as either sacked or decide to move on. This is why I don't think the players will be that bothered? Classie said last season that he would have signed for Saints even if RK wasn't our manager. This is why it is also important that Saints have a plan for (if RK leaves?), whereas you get the impression clubs like Everton now think that by throwing money around, will get them a quick fix, where in all honesty if they are not in the top 6 by the end of next season, their new manager (whoever that will be), will probably get sacked.
Only way I Koeman would leave now is he has asked the board if he can speak to Everton. Which would mean he doesn't want to stay, so we move on. None of this " lack of ambition" crap etc.
And it must utterly humiliating that you finished behind little Leicester, Southampton and West Ham despite all the millions you have spent and with your worldwide global fanbase...
