...I said contribution not assist and Vardy was involved in the short passes immediately before Alli's pass ...Vardy had one chance against Slovakia and made the keeper make a save ..plus Vardy was the only one of our forwards that could have made Wilshire's pass into a shooting chance ...now would you like to discuss how Harold worked the keeper from set pieces? ...suspect not ...

 

Well perhaps if Vardy had tucked that chance away V Slovakia instead of hitting the keeper it may have all been different. I also don't see anywhere in my post anything that suggests Harry played better I said that they were equally inept, but if you want for tit for tat then Harry worked the keeper with an excellent volley in the Iceland match, whereas it would have been easy to forget that James was even on the field of play. Harrys set pieces were attrocious but he never hid!

 

Vardy did attempt 6 tackles only won the ball once but he tried!

 

..if Clyne had squared to Vardy instead of shooting against Slovakia, England would have had 2 wins with goals from Vardy in each ... Kane was anonymous ... just as he was for the U21 s when we were favourites... 2 European tournaments... no goals .. not equally inept .. Kane wins the lead boot to go with the golden one he only won because Vardy didn't take all our penalties... and that is all.

 

Take no notice. He waffles on about Vardy like he was the shining light of the England team. TBH, if I hadn't been told he was on the pitch against Slovakia, I never would have known!..

PS ... don't think Vardy is the second coming ... but he performed better than Harold who was undoubtedly the biggest flop ...

He is relatively still a youngster and wasn't played to his strength by Roy.
He is a better header than most of the players in that squad.

You seem bitter that Kane won the golden boot, you go on about penalties but they scored the same number last season if your boy had scored all the ones to did take he would have got to share it and if Mahrez hadn't missed a couple Vardy would have been miles behind. Anyway when you get 'given' a premier league record 13 in a season it seems fair enough to share them out!

 

Why would I be biased, I am a Kent based Gillingham season ticket holder, I have been going to watch England since the 1980s and I was genuinely excited by the thought of seeing Vardy and Kane in tandem at this tournament, and in my opinion they both let us down. You admit that you are biased and I have no issue with that, you defend your man with a great deal of vigour which you are entitled to do. We clearly see things differently but then again we are all fans and I think that these debates show how much it means to us all. He didn't rate Vardy highly enough to warrant a place in Leicester's starting XI at the beginning of last season. It's typical jump on the bandwagon stuff. If Vardy has a poor start to next season he'll probably be claiming that he'd wanted him sold to Arsenal.

 

If Vardy had been called out as a diver earlier in the season Leicester would not have had so many penalties for him to take.

Vardy is quick enough to get in front of and across the last defender, they have a choice, get a tackle in before he does that or stop their momentum after he does ... far worse than any penalty we got was the one awarded to Spuds at Man City .. without which you would have finished 13 points behind ... ... you weren't robbed ... the best team in the league finished 10 points clear of the next best ... ... true that I was surprised that Vardy (and Okazaki) started the first game as first choice strikers - never said I didn't rate Vardy - they are your words and yours alone - indeed I was convinced enough to take a bet with you on the likelihood of him outscoring Rooney over the whole season ... a bet you lost .. and I suspect one reason why you like to harp back to my admitting that I was surprised at him being played in the first game etc ...

Indeed it will probably pain you to learn that I was actually one of those (perhaps a minority) that still thought Vardy might come good eventually even after his first deason with us when he was somewhat indifferent - happy to drag the actual post up just for you if you'd like Stan? ... if you would like to go look for a post where I actually ever say I don't rate Vardy feel free ... in fact please do ... a challenge ... or alternatively admit to your 'innaccuracy' ...
