Real shame, hope things get sorted and he stays til the end of the season but that's probably just wishful thinking. Don't really know how to feel about it, but would like to know the reasons. I suspect his best mate jimmy going out on loan has a big part to play. Anyone hearing any whispers? Sounds like the writings on the wall and it will be confirmed Monday. It's a crying shame but he's been a great servant and leader for us, so will wish him well and won't hold any grudges. Thanks for everything Ash and best of luck for the future.
**** him.hes at the age when hes turns into a mercenary.the sort of player we'd of bought 2 years ago.one last pay day.can't blame him.buy someone better.np has aleready had a dabble at a player.onwards and upwards.
How did everyone think Evans was today? I aren't fussed about ash in our side any more, just don't want to see him play for anyone else, funny that
Evans was superb for me, great touch, good passing, got stuck in when needed it just think yet again with him and Harper we had to players playing with defending in their minds, although Harper had his best game for us. Hopefully Evans can push forward in future games. On Ash its disappointing as no doubt he would of played today and certainly i would of liked to see him stay, i think his pal leaving and the lure of working with Browny must have turned his head.
I agree. If the writing was on the wall that he wouldn't get another extension here and another club want him, you can't blame him if he makes the move. I think it would be very harsh not to wish him luck wherever he goes.
If Ashbee leaving frees up money for another mobile midfielder (like Evans) and maybe another defender then losing Ash won't be a bad thing. Glad I was at Reading to join in with "Oh Ian Ashbee he's neither here nor there...." before he left! Thanks Ash but we move on.
Apart from Leeds... Do you reckon well have a replacement tough midfielder lined up? For me neither Evans or harper are hard enough to put fear in the minds of the opposition. What's more who's going to step up and fill his empty boots? Daws ain't a leader, I'd say gerrard but as he's not our player I think it's very unlikely. I reckon harps could do the job alright, he's not shy to share his views and did more shouting then daws today, also being in the middle of the pitch just makes it more convenient..
Ash is a club legend and would of loved to see him lift the play off trophy again this season. Sentiments aside, we have cover in his position, Harper is an identical player to Ash and more then capable replacement. Evans looks tidy and could be a great signing. Thanks Ash for all you did for the club, good luck at Preston.
Same. Think it was a choice between Manager or Player and unfortunately the manager always wins. Real shame.
I think that's a given, don't you? I'd go along with the rest of you're thought, too. If only we could keep Gerrard...
Would love gerrard to stay, hopefully he'll really enjoy a partnership with Chester and want to keep it going
Realistically speaking, Ash must know that he is only going to be going downwards at the club at the moment. We have brought in young and ambitious midfielders who he cannot - in the long term - hope to compete with. The squad is clearly evolving and he will know his time is reaching an end. On that basis, I can blame neither him nor the club for facilitating what appears to now be an inevitable move to Preston. It works for Ash, and it works for us. He is a high earner and we'd be happy to take his wages off the bill. It will be a sad day when it is confirmed, but it will not sully his status as a genuine City legend and one of the best midfielders and most loyal servants we have ever had. He is permanently etched into the club's history and nothing will change that. Good luck Ash. You deserve it.
Ash was drinking buddies with Bullard. NP didn't show any empathy with Ash when asked during his interview with Burnsy on Humberside - quoting 'his timing of submitting a transfer request on Friday did not help his team's preparation for today's game. The fact Ash has been at City for nearly 9 years, and captained the side in all four divisions obviously has no credence with NP. Ash probably knows his days at City are numbered and will take up an offer from Brownie should one come along.
hes been offered a contract by another club an handed in the request...it maybe harsh but i dont think we'l miss him all that much.but i would still like to offer him my thanks for 9 years of service
My head says it's right time for Ash to move on but my heart is broken. i know footballers come and go but he has been the main man at city for so long it is very sad. the fact that he couldn't wait till the end of the season and we could have all said our thanks to him, or even played today would be nice. We owe the man a lot and i would like to say thanks ash as you are a true tiger legend and you'll always be welcome at the KC! Just not in a preston shirt! ha
