You'd think I would be pleased that it doesn't just happen to us....but it is still depressing. Makes me think better of Vardy.

I agree it is quite a nice feeling to see it happens to others, looks like things will go back to normal next season. Feel sorry for Leicester , but I think even they new it was a one off fairy tale, atleast they got to enjoy it .

They can't take a title from you....those second places in the old first division and again in the Championship and first division in recent times still pisses me off.

Apologies if already discussed, but it's interesting to read in a couple of different articles over the last few days that Koeman was interested in Sigurdsson when he was here.

That said, I'm not sure Everton needed to hire Steve Walsh if that's the sort of player who they're going to target. They could have employed me to tell them that Sigurdsson would be a good target. One thing's for sure though, even at £25m+, if Everton do sign him then I will be mightily, mightily jealous (whereas I didn't give two hoots about Koeman joining them).

Poor Leicester. Makes me hate modern football that even more. i just really dislike how the big boys can gang up on anyone who dares overachieve that little bit. They can't have the status quo changed at all

Exactly, Kante and Mahrez were always likely to be off but at least they have something to show for it. Be interesting to see the reception they both receive at the King Power next season, no doubt some will boo them

Meh, its Leicester so I'm not going to feel sorry for them. What it does for me though is remind me that the big boys do it to everyone so Saints are no different to any other top flight club that isnt one of the mega rich.
I also remember that we do it to any other club we want players from - Celtic, Feyenoord, Burnley etc. We March up, wave some money at players, promise them a bigger stage to play on and proceed to take the brightest and best from the less financially able clubs.
Every team tries to do it, however depending on where you are in the food chain dictates who we do it to. If Saints, by some miracle became a colossus in world Football, I bet not a single Saints fan would care if we then proceeded to tempt players away from Real Madrid, Barca, Manure etc

Thats life isn't it? Dog eat dog and survival of the fittest has always been how football works to the greater extent, and Saints are just as guilty of it. I know plenty of Bristol Rovers fans who wished Lambert well when he came to us, but were still gutted that they had lost him to moneybags Southampton.

If true that's another club trying to break the glass ceiling being slowly dissected. I think it's one of the worst aspects of football that aspiring clubs who want to challenge the status quo, and bring greater competition to a league, are picked over by those who are already there. It's such an easy way to get rid of the competition and improve themselves at the same time. In some cases it doesn't even improve them, but strategically it works out best to blow away the smaller club for a few million.

I can't blame Mahrez, but after Vardy showed faith I hoped for better from the other stars.

We already did change. We'll be more fluid. Pelle brought goals, strength in the air (though that didn't necessarily suit us) and a physical presence. For the size of the man, his hold up play was poor.

We'll miss him but not a major problem. If goals do up then that will be an obvious miss but I always felt we offered more with more flexible strikers.

I agree with this, however it also means that when it does come to you, you make it stick and stick hard. This is when you need a striker who will keep hold of the white round thing.

It's what, £1m more than Liverpool paid for Lallana? About £2m less than Utd paid for Fellaini? About half what City paid for Sterling? The same as what Liverpool has just paid (to a Championship side) for Wijnaldum?

I appreciate that it seems steep for us, because we don't even break the £15m bracket. But I would say that it's a fair enough price for him in today's market.

To be fair we had an alternative style for last season when Pelle wasn't playing, but I agree, I think we may seriously miss the input he brought to the squad, unless Southampton have something else looming that I haven't yet realised. Much as I like Long, Austin and Jay, I don't see any of them filling a Pelle role, which he was brilliant at, at times, and for various reasons, I don't see them as being as effective in the roles best suited to them. Shane is proven now that he can do it, albeit he still won't score hatfuls. I've always liked Charlie Austin, but at this level I'm still not 100% sure. I'd like to be more confident about him. JayRod I'm very concerned about. In the few games he managed to play late last season he looked bewildered by the speed and precision required. I can only hope the pre-season sorts that out. We don't have a strong talisman striker anymore, in my opinion. Charlie appears to be the only candidate to step up, but he's not in the same line leading class as Graziano. Then there's the separate issue of the Mane replacement.
