What an absolute sickener to give away such a sloppy goal right at the death, especially when we could have won it a few seconds earlier. All the worse because the first half performance was one of the best 45 minutes I have seen from us since we returned to League 1. Yes - it is still early days but two home defeats out of three, eight goals conceded in the league already and a total inability to defend a lead point to a relegation side. It amazes me that Moha did not get a look-in after having a very promising first hour last week - his delivery from corners was sorely missed. Toney has some good points but still looks pretty raw and both he and AJ need a goal to settle them down. I am not even sure we have played any of the top teams yet (perhaps apart from Charlton) yet every team we play simply seems to have better players than we have - teams in this league counterattack with both pace and width and we do not seem to have any answer to it. It is over to MM and MJ now to show us they can work with the 21 players they have to try and improve the youngsters and try to instil more teamwork and a winning mentality. If we are in a similar league position come Christmas I hope someone else has the chance to take advantage of the opportunity afforded by the transfer window.
The game should have been dead and buried by half time leaving Gillingham no hope of recovery. As they say a 2-0 lead at half time is dangerous. Apart from AJLS' miss both Toney and Agogo missed good headed chances in the 2nd half. Substitutions were strange. I agree about Moha..should have got a run out in the last 15 minutes when the game was stretched. Mangan starting?. Unfortunately contributed nothing.
Away on the south coast in Beer this week so missed game. Really happy seeing BBC App popping up with the Dodds goals, gutted to see the Gills come back through JET and for them to get that winner is gutting.
I would have started with Moha - his delivery was excellent last week. It was clear from the first five minutes of the second half we were struggling but all the substitutions were like for like. I have seen nothing this season to change my view from the end of last season that we have a manger and coaching staff who are out of their depth in this league but, as always, I live in hope.
