Shelvey is a player that can turn a game with his long range shots and can hit the target from a distance and we have strikers who cant hit the target when they are right on top of it....<laugh>

People need to forget about Shelvey. He scored a few matchwinners and has given us all a few decent memories - but they are nothing more than a snip in time. I've hardly remember a full 90 minutes from Shelvey where he didn't hinder our play with lazy possession and/or lazy defensive work. He scored a good few bangers for us which I appreciate and loved every one of them, but we couldn't carry a midfielder like that on the whole. He's a luxury player who plays best without defensive responsibilities - the reason why he'll never develop into the Gerrard-type midfielder that he so desires.

I still don't miss him, and a few goals in the Championship isn't going to change my mind on that.

Too many on here harped on about us making a bad call in letting Nathan Dyer go to Leicester - well he's back now and he's picked up right where he left off. Piss poor. I see this situation as very similar - don't let a few good moments for Shelvey at his new club make you think he's sticking a middle finger up to us. The lad hit a rut with us, got relegated with Newcastle and he's had very limited game time under Benitez so far - hardly pulling up trees.

This is the lad we let go in the end. For 5-10 goals a season, he ain't worth it.

Well we've had a transfer window and he's still in the Championship - that should tell you all you need to know.
