Appologies if I've jumped the gun a touch with regards to my initial comment. I stand by the fact however that football fans generally have become too demanding of their club and expect instant gratification. And City certainly have a fair share of them!
So I've noticed Kio. Absolutely nothing wrong with those who's opinions change. As long as they understand at least one of those opinions are wrong Been lurking for a while as I do on most ncfc related forums. More so this one tbh.. which is probably part due to interaction with our friends down the road. And ColU Mike of course
Only the three years then In my defence I have seen/heard city fans questioning AN's tenure following the Brum defeat.. Honest guv!!
Pinning this is promoting the ill feeling... I don't think any other manager would give us a much better points tally. Now there is a lot more comments on this. even though we won 3 in a row. If we lose the next one, maybe players, staff or manager looked on here, and pissed them off. and we then lose one. so then this thread gets stronger
Interesting to see that 'blast from the past'. The one I particularly liked was Rob's: "Do you think if I repeat Montanier enough, McNally might hear?" The name's familiar. Didn't we just beat his team at their place?
My opinion, and that is all that it is, is that we have played to somewhere near our potential twice this season only. I know we can only beat what's in front of us and we have had injuries BUT we have played some bang average teams who our being no great shakes was still enough to beat. I think that AN has achieved the minimum required thus far this season. I think the absence of Tettey forced him to play a CM of Howson/Dorrans and this IMO explained our more fluent performance. I still feel that AN puts round pegs in square holes and seldom seems to have a plan B for when things go awry - this has not changed since last season but as this season he has one of the best teams and squads in the division his issues are not causing us to lose repeatedly as we did last season. We will see how he adapts when he has a full squad at his disposal and when we play some of the better teams. I hope that we have enough to get promoted despite his limitations as I think if we are relying on his abilities to lead us over the line we my well fall short - as a manager do posters feel that he has improved since last season or remained pretty much the same?.
In general teams do raise themselves against the better teams. The skill is to make sure you're still winning the games where you don't fire your self up and stay in the first couple of gears. In generally that's what's been happening. Its very difficult to motivate a set of relegated players to victories, even when technically they are among the best in the league. Look at Villa or countless other teams that have failed to return at the first attempt. The more form pick up the greater the confidence. Ultimately we all know we have the best chance of going back up this season. To do that we need to be getting 3 points more often than not. And ugly points look just as good on the table as pretty ones.
If it is difficult to motivate them then perhaps they are the wrong players! Firstly they have a fantastic job, yes it comes with pressures but playing in the championship and getting payed £20K+ should be plenty enough motivation in itself, even if they believe they should be PL players. They themselves and the manager should have little trouble reminding them that they have a weekly (With the odd Tuesday for good measure) chance to go out and prove that. And bloomin eck unless they are one of those freaks like David Batty who actually hated the game but was good at it, go out and bloody enjoy it! i wish my body would allow me to still get out there and do it. Bah!
Three excellent posts!!! Norfolkbhoy - If AN starts with the 11 who beat Forest on Saturday, then I may start to believe that he has improved from last season, but if he ddrops someoen so that he can play Tettey ...... Bath - Yes, very true in that 'ugly points look just as good as pretty ones (unless your ILD!!) General - The trouble is, look at Naismith and he STILL gets paid!!!
Agree but unfortunately that's not how human nature works. All teams struggle with confidence issues and it can't be shrugged off that easily. One of the reason our young players are doing well, they weren't involved in the relegation so are more positive. A good run will breed more confidence which in turn will improve the play. They need the fans behind them, especially as they're now second it's hard to say they're not doing their job.
Agreed, the human nature thing is the intangible that's tough. The City fans getting on any players back is not gonna help any of them. Some players like people in other walks of life have unshakeable self belief, most don't and it appears in spite of what for city was a large fee, Mr Naismith has had his shaken. Moving and all the big changes that follow could have an effect on anyone. I'm as disappointed as anyone in his form thus far but maybe if everyone at least for a few games gave him some unwavering support he may start to earn thar fee and our trust! Bah!
