I see from today's Daily Mirror (from the BBC Gossip website) and FML's post (http://www.not606.com/threads/general-football-thread.308147/page-169#post-9728609) that Everton is the latest club hoping to entice the twins away from NCFC. (Where's Supers when you need him, as he was adamant that none of our 'youff' would become regular first team players)
I may be wrong but the twins have now scored 5 goals between them -
Jacob - Blackburn and Wigan 2
    Josh - Cardiff and Everton
In addition Jacob had several near misses last week against Forest and I'm sure with the likes of Hucks in the NCFC set up, they can only get improve.
They aren't afraid to shoot from distance and get their shots on or very near target quite frequently, whereas Redmond was pretty much the opposite in that respect.
I think it was Cromer who mentioned yesterday the role unscrupulous players' agents play in this and I'm quite sure that their agent is already planning how he's going to spend his fee if he can 'persuade' them to move. I'm hoping at the very least that they'll stay until the end of the season and try to help us to win promotion, but should we fail to go up, then I've a feeling that they'll move on
I know from the posts on this subject already that we all want them to stay and grace the CR turf with their skills (and their failings), but if I heard ANYONE criticising them, I'd certainly take them to task and explain why!!!

Good sign that other teams are interested in our youngsters. It shows we're developing them properly. It's inevitable that we'll lose the best youth players over time, as happens to most of the other squads outside of the top PL teams. If they've got ambition then the Murphy's will eventually want to play at the top end of town. We can only hope that we get decent fees for them when the time comes. Otherwise what's the point? We might as well scrap the academy and spend the money on scouting and fees picking up youngsters from other tier 2 academies. As others have said... get those contracts updated immediately.

I'd personally love to see us get promoted with them and then let them show their stuff in the PL before losing them to record British transfer fees the following summer ;)

I hope both the lads have their heads screwed on. Any PL suitors are unlikely to play them straight away and they may end up getting loaned to clubs like us in the championship. In which case why not stay? Our catch is that they now are in a very strong negotiating position. They are playing well and garnering outside attention so can demand much improved wages to stay, I bet we could have got them for 3-4 years for next to nought in modern day terms at the start of the season where the only prospective suitors were lge1 clubs! They can also push for greater inclusion on the pitch. I know Josh is no more likely to start for a club higher in the footy pyramid but as he is not generally starting here he may be more inclined to look at the PL cheques and decide to try pastures new. It would seem that AN would not like them on the pitch simultaneously, so whilst I wouldn't want to see either go, I would like to see at least one of them retained and really consistantly being played (Assuming his form continues to be strong).
Hopefully we will be able to offer them not only enough money to keep them but also sell them on playing first team footy, a decent chance of PL footy next season and obviously we do have the fact that they will know the area as home. If they have their heads screwed on they will doubtless have a release clause put in to allow them to go to the PL if we fail to get promoted and they are then getting beter offers, which would be fair enough even if in the summer potentially avoidable.

    Bah!

The Murphy's and Angus Gunn have very bright futures I would hope they will show a modicum of loyalty and stay with us if the club match their ambition.
At the moment we are fighting for the title and the feelgood factor has returned long may it continue.

The club must make a bold statement and offer them solid new contracts asap (memo to Moxey - get on with it sir). That way the vultures can go and circle somewhere else.

This Moxey guy doesn't talk to the press he seems a bit pointless.
I bet the giant TV shop manager is rubbing his hands right now we could buy another two with the sale of the twins.

David McNally would have had this all sorted weeks ago :emoticon-0106-cryin
It's debatable exactly what Moxey does bring to the party, as other than helping get the Pritchard deal over the line (before he even joined the club, allegedly?) he appears to have been idle / inactive, never mind as quiet as a bloody mouse, as DD alluded to.
So what is he paid to do?:emoticon-0112-wonde

I assume you know Angus Gunn went to Man City years ago. Pep has recently called him up to train with the first team.

Yes he starred in a pre season penalty shoot out win against Dortmund and was in the England youth squads.
The point being he was one of our own and destined for greatness.
Zero point in spending money on a youth set up and academy if you sell off your best players that come through for peanuts and spend £8m on players nearing retirement.
As KIO said the Murphy's should not have got to the situation where they could leave for free next year .
Offer them 5 year contracts and a decent wage now and if they want to go to a big team later we can recoup some of the money we spent on them .

As I said several posts back, they can't go for free because they are under 24!

But do we get what they are really worth from the tribunal? And no sell on clause etc.

Of course we wouldn't get anything like their worth, but what I've seen of them, they are overjoyed at playing for their home club, I don't think they'll be going anywhere soon!

I agree with this. The whole thing seems to be speculative journalism to me (ie. make it up). Both have worked hard to make it through the youth set-up and are now established in our first team squad. They should be offered a big pay-rise with their next contract and if this rumour was serious, that would've already happened. Like Redmond, they may leave in the future but there's absolutely no reason for them to do so now.

There are add ons once they've made so many appearances for the first team/if they play at International level as well as a 'sell on' clause. <ok>

Edit - From today's EDP - “I was just thinking do what you do best, do what you do naturally and then hopefully it will come off,” he said of his strike. “It was a relief that it went in and it took a lot of pressure off us and we could build on that so it was great.”
Murphy is well aware he still has plenty to learn defensively though and is not getting carried away with his big moment.
“Every game for me, especially as a young player, is a learning experience and the group helps so much because pretty much everyone around you in our team has played in the Premier League,” the Canaries academy product continued.
“You could see that with the way the boys played, with experienced heads to manage the game.”

He speaks so well for a footballer, unlike Beckham who hardly opened his mouth to speak.

I don't know if we get offered proper money for them then it might be worth the club selling and using the money to invest further. I think continually investing in promising youngsters and selling may be the way to go for the next 5 to 6 years. It's certainly helped Southampton. We've seem to have quiet a few more in the pipeline Canoe, Maddison, Thompson, Godfrey, McGrandles etc. Whilst both twins have done really well this seasons so far they are nowhere near proven Championship level players let alone PL. Yes they've shown that they have the odd moments of brilliance, but they have also fallen short of the required standard on occasions. Do we really need them to get promoted ? If AN can get our more established players playing their best then we could get promoted without them. I'd like to see us sign them on 3 year contracts and maybe look at selling them in a year / 18 months time, but if we got offered over the odds for them then it may be better to sell. Personally I agree with RER and think at present a lot of this is just paper talk, I can't see a PL taking a chance on them yet.

So, as we've got Canoe, etc you're suggesting we ship the Murphys out asap? <whistle>
    Paddle be the day <sorry>
