I see all media report he's going to Palace. I personally don't get it, not Palace/Pardew, but each to their own. Money talks I guess.
I wouldn't take the word of a Downie as gospel... Regardless of casual discrimination, I think he will turn it down when he realizes they want him to play LB and Pardew gets one evening with his missus. Believe in the Rafalution Andros!
Like I say, I genuinely don't get it. Any top 8 club then, yeah, off you go. But Palace?! I mean....it's Palace! And Pardew! He's just a strange character is Andros. Like I say, frozen out at Spurs in the end, couldn't make the loan to Everton work, we gave him a shot and all we were in the end was a shop window for all of 4 months. Maybe I'm old fashioned, but I'd take 52,000 and Rafa in ANY division over Crystal Palace (and quite a few others an'all).
Shows his ambition - Alan Pardew and Crystal Palace [with their 26,000 fans] over Rafa Benitez and us [with 52,000 fans and massive potential.] **** him. Enjoy being relegated next season Andros. Another piece of **** mercenary.
Bugger. The one player (of those likely to leave) that I was/am bothered about leaving. Someone said in an earlier thread that he had turned Palace down and now apparently he is going. Least we kept Rafa though
More chance of him getting an England call if he's playing for a London club. Or similar such thoughts going through his mind.
Hoped he would stop but figured he'd probably go but to Palace? Thought he would likely look to go if someone of the level of S'ton or Everton or someone of their current ilk. On the basis of going to Palace I have to say I'm disappointed. No blame on him for us going down but had hoped, subject to above, that he might have shown some loyalty for us having given him a chance to play and nearly get to the Euro's. Suppose I'm just an old fashioned optimist.
Good luck to him. At least he tried. It's the cowardly ****s who bottled it who are on the end of my beel.
He only agreed to come on the basis that he could leave if we got relegated, so I suppose it's fair enough that he's leaving. It's just a shame that he didn't fancy staying and being part of something better in the longer term, which I think will happen with the club's change in policy and under Rafa's stewardship.
If true majorly disappointed, especially as it's Palace. It's his career, but l really don't see this move as being better for him than staying put under Rafa. Even though every aspect of the PL says money is King and loyalty just a daft notion from the past, l had thought he might see it that he owed us something. After all we took him from obscurity and put him back on track. Form found, England call up and an integral part of what Rafa wants to build. As l say, ultimately it's up to him, but l really don't get where he is coming from. Even more disappointing when you consider Rafa has met with him twice and must have wanted him to stay. I thought Townsend had more to him than this mercenary move. I am sure he will whine about his International career etc, but it wasn't NUFC that left him out of the squad, it was a gutless manager. I think one day in the future, Andros will look back on this decision and regret it.
