Could explain why they've not really pushed it in games Managing the season like Michael Jordan used to manage games.
I may well be wrong, but suspect this may have all been part of the reduction in wages due to relegation clauses, and the club attempting to offset with this end of season arrangement when the Allams would have the security of higher revenue around the corner all confirmed. What surprises, and disappoints me is how such info gets into the public domain.
Or….. The Allams could have had a decent bet on us… what were our odds for promotion at the beginning of the season..?
If they'd made it £2m a player, we could have spent the potential saving on a couple of decent strikers.
£2 million a player? £50 million for 25 players? What saving would that be? That's about half the TV revenue that's expected from next season! They'd have had to be mental for that, but at least we'd hopefully have wrapped up promotion by now! Either way, obviously £5 million doesn't mean much to them!
This seems a pretty smart way to do things and not sure the link between it and the performances we're seeing at the moment. If people think our players are greedy and selfish then this is the perfect way to align their goals with the supporters'.
People/supporters don't think players are greedy, they know they are greedy. The whole ****ing system is wrong when a player gets paid anywhere between £10k to £250k a week for kicking a ball or even worse bench warming.
just think about all that tax though - someone like Rooney helps pay for 5 refugee families for a whole year with the tax he pays each week
In the end it's all down to satellite TV. Murdoch is so ****-scared of losing the rights to show the most games he'll pay anything to keep them.
Football players earn as much as they do because the games they play in make for popular viewing around the world and the TV rights generate a lot of money. Likewise, Hollywood actors get paid a lot of money because lots of people pay to see their films. What is difficult to understand?
Some footballers and associates are grossly overpaid, as are some actors and associates, Traders, Financiers, entertainers and their associates, and more. The problem, for me, is no penalty for poor performance - I am aware the financial sector is trying to address it. Entrepreneurs, who take risk, are the lifeblood of the economy. Greed and opulence is endemic, I understand the attractions, I enjoy some, on a low level. If the players get a penny-piece of this bonus it will be a kick in the teeth to the kids who watch them and have paid towards it.
