Bunch of entitled barstewards .. want to control everything while lining their own pockets ... the money they have made from the premier league and sky and yet these greedy twats still want more ... wouldnt it be lovely if those spending 100s of millions on players and their wages just stopped and thought for a second about grass roots football and where a lot of these players come from. Football should be a game for all .. a chance to reach for the stars .. not just for the entitled few who just see it as a money earner.
Some of it is reasonable. I don't see why the league needs to be cut to 18 teams and only having 2 guaranteed promotion spots isn't right. Changing the play offs so a PL side is in them is massively unfair too. There's basis for negotiation though
Really? You think they want salary caps and equal revenue distribution? How about a draft system where the worst teams get the best players? They have all the power now, can't see them wanting to move to system designed to redistribute that power. The American model would handicap the big clubs wanting to compete in Europe it would be suicide for them. The only advantages of an American system for the big clubs would be no relegation (not really an issue for them) and being able to negotiate local market broadcast deals (won't happen because because the local markets are not big enough).
They need to cut 2 clubs out to fund their generous package to the EFL, a play off win to the EPL is now valued at 170M, not sure how this will be equitably redistributed. How does the EFL restructure to accomodate the 2 additions, promotion from L1 to the Championship being our main concern.
If only, they're doing it as they want to play less games and the games against bottom clubs are the lowest earners. It's funny but all the top clubs complaining about playing too many games keep trying to get each team to play more games in the CL. Peculiar that.
Football has not been a fair game for years and success is bought. This leaves the likes of us and so many languishing in lower divisions or dipping into the elite as the ultimate in success. Until transfers and salaries are capped to give make all 92 clubs equal and given a genuine opportunity the corruption will continue. It requires those loyal supporters of those 72 clubs plus NFL to rise up and demand this form of radical change. Sick of this appeasement talk of recognising those true supporters, just talk. The game is infested by any genuine concern for those fans by owners, fifa, UEFA, PL and the EFL replaced by greed that has extinct any moral conscience of players. Cant understand why this has not happened to date??????
Combined with abolishing the League cup it could make the PL season a bit shorter, so more time for the top 6 to play international friendlies, which make them a fortune apparently. Just a guess.
While the status quo is a ****show, it's not impossible that the current ****show is the least **** it's realistically going to get. As someone who remembers the formation/launch of the Premier League I don't trust these proposals for a second. When the Premier League was formed one of its principal aims was to protect and strengthen the national team. The ink on the signatures was barely dry before the big clubs did everything they could to undermine international football. Anyone who heard Graham Kelly speak in the years after the split was made will know how utterly conned he felt by what had happened. So while it would be nice for the teams to be united under one umbrella and some of these other suggestions seem reasonable enough, but how long will it be, for example, before B teams are forced upon us within the Football League set up? A grassroots drive would be wonderful, but what are the grassroots? I honestly don't know. I think too many people throughout the country - including those within what I think are the grassroots - are too invested in watching the big clubs do big club things from the comfort of their armchairs to rock the boat too much.
It feels like they've tabled a cheeky offer and are hoping that any negotiations that follow will mean they retain some of their preferred features while making some concessions here and there. It wouldn't surprise me if they arrive at a compromise of: 20>18 teams in prem 92>90 teams in league One off payment would be reduced to £200mil instead of £250mil as a concession. 20% of tv rights go to EFL clubs 1 club = 1 vote, no weighting for time served PPV games re-priced to £5 on average a game and available across all 4 divisions The voting rights issue will be the sticking point that will result in lower financial reward for teams lower down. If that happens then it wouldn't surprise me if they introduced PPV across the football league to compensate for that.
Anyone who heard Graham Kelly speak in the years after the split was made will know how utterly conned he felt by what had happened. Agreed, Graham Kelly was an idiot - think Rick Parry with bad glasses.
