Not a classic but some good stuff. The action over eau rouge was great. But I thought for a moment there was going to be an epic early on...
It looked like a Vettel 1 stop win to me, until the Force Indias decided to finish what they started on the opening lap, Perez showed why I top team probably won't come in for him. Vettel's restart was just a little bit too good, if he'd been a bit further behind he would've got a longer tow. Some great 3-abreast racing moves going on, can't decide which was the pick though, should give it to Alonso as, you know, McHRT. also, some great shots of the action, TV crew did a great job, I especially love the helicopter chase cam, reminds me of old Hockenheim.
Good race, but the big 'if' on the strategy due to the safety car. Great job by both Lewis and Seb, but I wonder if Merc are bothered/concerned that Ferrari were a threat this weekend?
I agree , Pat Symmonds just said , if you are a team manager looking for a new driver , would you sign a driver that has proved he cannot play the team game ? Yes the coverage was fantastic .
Not a chance...I think Lewis was so fast with the soft tyres Vettel didn't have much of a chance. The safety car came when Lewis was stretching the lead and gave Vettel a chance there, but Lewis on the slower tyre was mighty against Vettel who was on the quicker tyre. I think the deciding factor in the race though was Lewis' pass on Kimi. It was balsy in the area of the track and had he not done it there he would have been in trouble because Kimi could have held him up to give Vettel the undercut. Big Ern, you made a great point about Vettel being too close to Lewis to Lewis on the run up at the start of the race...he really would have gotten a longer tow had he been further back. But Lewis might have been able to power back by the next turn. While I think Lewis did an honorable thing last race to give back Bottas the place, I think Mercedes may be regretting that now. His pace in this race was strange. I thought he would have given Vettel some pressure at the start but he was no where around...and the restart was even worse. By the way, remember I had said earlier that Mercedes wasn't that far off when they were on the soft tyre and was wondering if they would take a chance to do Q2 on the softs to make it the race start tyre? It was evident from practice that Mercedes were really quick on the softs so I wasn't surprised that Lewis on softs could match and outrun Vettel on ultra softs. And it seems like Perez doesn't like the fact that his rookie teammate is up there with him all the time. You have to face good competition and repel it fairly ...even if it's your rookie teammate.
Didn't see the race. Been to the other race today... Any good, worth watching highlights or does the result tell the story.
