This is where this argument runs into a pickle. It is the job of any manager to make the squad work for them regardless of who brought in the players. This is an 11 player team game and surely we must acknowledge that the team is now finding form because they are all doing better, not just brew signings. Shaw, Fred, Matic, Martial, Rashford, McTominay, and the list goes on. This is not about players brought in by one manager. If that were a prerequisite for any measured success, then we would be seeing a new starting 11 every time a new manager comes in. Let’s tell that the lower teams that are scrapped for resources.

Essentially this is the idea of Sports Director who will own transfer responsibilities and not the manager. Yes, they collaborate, but ultimately, it will be sporting director’s call. Therefore the job of a manager is to first of all make existing players respond to him as the team evolves over time.

    Which he has done?

Until more changes are made and better players recruited, this squad is currently in its realistic position, which is challenging for top four.

It's not a title winning squad, no manager on earth could make it win the league.

There is no doubt that the team has started to respond again. Just as they did when Ole first took charge. And we have to give the manager credit where it is due for working to turn it around in the last few weeks. Even the relationship with Matic that I thought was damaged beyond repair is working out and he’s been pivotal for us this year.

But I wouldn’t say that the position we are in is realistic when we look at teams around us. We should have been doing better with the squad from the start of the season. We underperformed and there’s no hiding from that fact. But we luckily, we still have a chance to make something of the season.

Look, we're in a realistic position to be fourth or even third by the end of the season. Which is when things should be judged.

The fact is, Liverpool's and City's squads are better and more evolved than ours, so if we do finish third or fourth, then we are in our realistic position until the team is improved further.

Klopp has taken five years to reach this position by the way, after inheriting a poor squad, and Guardiola has also thrown hundreds of millions at his squad. Neither picked up on the previous managers squad and instantly got it winning the league.

Because that's what happens. That's how it works.

Managers make changes and evolve squads into their own. Which is what our current manager is attempting to do. As will the one after him, if we do make a change in summer.

Forget Liverpool and City! This is not about challenging for the title. This is about consistent performance from a squad that should be doing better given this is not a piecemeal squad by any means of the imagination.

It is clearly evident that Chelsea has somewhat of an inferior team. Same goes for Leicester. They should not be above this United squad on paper. Any other season, fifth place would be impossible with our performances. 11 wins in 27 games is abysmal for a team that spends the kind of money we spend on transfers and salaries regardless of who brought in the players.

And I get it! This argument is largely based on bias toward Ole because he is a legend at the club, and rightfully so. But at least we should still maintain the some consistent way to measure success as we have judged every manager before him.

All that said, we still have a good chance until the end of the season to make amends for what has so far been below average season but I’m rooting for Solskjaer to make it happen.

How about this for a novel idea; we wait until the end of the season and see where we are then?

Because my money is on us not being below Chelsea, or even Leicester, by that time.

If Ole ****s it up, we make the change.
