My issue with Simeone, which I wasn't aware of, is he speaks zero English. Nor do his coaching team. That's a big problem. Personally, I would rather Allegri long term but no one is seemingly capable of looking long term, he'd be sacked after the first season as he tried to get his head round the premier league and put together how he wants the team to play. A quicker, shorter term fix, is Poch. Fully agree though, Allegri pedigree blows Poch out of the water.
There is a reason why you never hear Simeone's name being bandied about whenever there is talk of manager movements among the top clubs in Europe, and more pointedly, in Spain. He is a divisive and abrasive figure and beyond AM, where they think the sun shines out of his arse, there isn't much love for him as a person and his combative personality. He's been at AM for nine years - if he was any good, one of the top clubs would have taken him by now. He's undoubtedly the right manager for AM - but that's it.
All that will happen is United will throw enough money at this to ensure Ole doesn’t fail. He’ll get all the credit when we eventually finish 4th and win a Carabao Cup, and the ‘told you so’ band would be in full tune. Literally anybody who knows football can see he’s a striker who can’t organise his team defensively, he’s turned the world’s most expensive centre half into an absolute clown in about 6 months. He also continues to stand there with his arms folded every time we are behind, looking void of any sort of inspiration, he is just soundbite after soundbite.
If we get Fernandes and van der Beek, as is rumoured, that's half way to addressing the midfield. Both very good players who any future manager would use. Defensively, no idea who the 'coach' is? Or the coaches of any facets of the team to be perfectly honest. If Solskjaer is the manager, he needs decent coaches as he clearly is not one himself. Nor is Carrick, nor is Phelan.
He needs to be able to coach these things himself as well, he’s not Fergie is he? Pep and Klopp will be coaching their clubs, bloody hell if it’s just a personality we need we might as well get Lee Evans in.
Yeah, get that, but to stand any chance we need specialist coaches. Which all other clubs will have. To my knowledge, we don't. We have a couple of assistant managers and a manager, non of whom could be described as anything but 'inspirational' types. They aren't coaches. Carrick appears to do and say very, very little, reminds of when Moyes had a load of clueless hapless ****s on his bench doing **** all. I assume we have a goalkeeper coach somewhere but De Gea has also gone rapidly backwards in the last year.
My point is that AM have scored 22 goals this season compared to RM - 36 and Barca - 49. AM have conceded only 12 goals so far, the least in La Liga (jointly with RM). This highlights their defensive bias - a style of play that is not suited to the 'United way'.
We have just replaced the GK coach I think. Ole won’t assemble anything, he’ll be made up with his nostalgic clusterfuck.
Exactly! The fact that Real are still the only challenger to Barca proves that point. Barcelona threw away that last game against ATM. They should have wrapped it up but didn't put in professional game management. That game is by no way an indication of how good Simeone is as a manager. Now, I'm not suggesting that he's not good manager but he's not of United's mold. He's very much from the school of Mourinho, in my opinion.
No real point in bickering/discussing Simeone as it won't be him. He's not even on United's radar. We target out of work managers, easy to slot in and we don't have to pay compo. It'll be Poch or Allegri.
I feel for OGS. I agree that this has come too soon for him but I really don’t like seeing him getting a hard time. I love that guy. Cantona Robson Scholes Solskjaer
He took the job, probably should have turned it down. Have a lot (some of the best moments in my entire life were down to him; was at OT turning Liverpool over in the FA cup in 99, was at the CL final in 99) of time for him. He's not the man for the job though, ultimately.
At the end of the day we're in 5th spot at the half-way point in the season. Cups and injuries will start to affect the teams around us (and ourselves) - but given the ****e we have in the squad, it can be argued that Ole has done a good job. I'd like to see him get a decent squad and see what happens then, right now our mediocre job-lot is ravaged by injury, we have Pogba still to deal with - so he isn't doing bad considering ....................
I'll pop up this message for you again when we lose our next game which should be just around the corner after another two game win streak is over. lol I wanted Ole to succeed so badly, but there was just always something that pointed to an expected downturn with Ole even in the midst of our massive win streak after Jose. Not getting the right midfield players in the summer to fill the blanks was a major disappointment and we have paid the price for that negligence. But I'm hopeful! Pogba's situation irks me as I would loathe to have him as a colleague. But still I'm somehow hopeful that maybe something good will come off the situation. We are now linked with Fernandes again. I hope it is not a bluff this time around. We need a midfielder that can get us 15 combined goals and assists a season. If Ole can get him in, it will go a long way to ease our lack of creativity in the midfield. Anyone taking bets that Manchester United will end Liverpool's winning streak?
