Oh wow, we’ve actually put in a £60m bid for him - I don’t think this will be enough personally as most reports are saying Brighton want at least £75m+, but let’s see I guess. Not expecting this to get done, though, especially with Boehly lurking.
I’ve also just seen he’s got 2 years left on his deal. Brighton are under absolutely no pressure to sell.
I don't think I've ever seen him play. But if we sign him this will be awesome and a statement. Absolute worldie and probably one of the best young players in the world. If Chelsea get him though, then he's just an over-rated, over-priced journeyman.
This is the least surprising news ever. Unless we offer in the region of £90m+, this won’t be happening. We don’t have time to waste, so I’m hoping we have other targets in mind and haven’t put all our eggs into the Caicedo basket.
Brightons scouting system is legit. They bought this guy for what £5m - if they sell him on for £75m six months later that's some crazy good business. Hav'nt seen much of him play either.
I wonder if anything can be read into Caicedo being left out of the Brighton team against the Pool today, even though they say it's to go away and clear his head between now and next Wednesday.
Barcelona getting rid of Bellerin after 6 months. Wow. I went on a Barca forum recently and they said he’s one of the worst players they’ve seen play for the club, so it’s clearly not been a happy return. It seems those two ACL injuries he got in close succession seem to have ruined his career, as he was a player reliant on his explosiveness.
Thought these quotes were interesting. Granted, he’s not the one deciding what happens, but it seems like he’s accepted that he may not be here.
Agreed, just looking at all the latest google tabloid stuff suggests this move could seriously happen. https://www.skysports.com/football/...s-60m-bid-for-midfielder-rejected-by-brighton https://www.google.com/search?q=Moi...HHaAsDyIQpwV6BAgBEBU&biw=1536&bih=721&dpr=2.5
They won't get that much for him in the summer because more central midfield players will be available so there'll be less demand. He won't cost them relegation if he left now so they should just cash in really innit
Brighton are notoriously tough negotiators and generally don’t get strong armed into selling even if a player refuses to train or makes public statements. I agree that the fee we’ve offered was more than fair, but from their standpoint, they have a legitimate chance of getting into Europe and he’s one of their best midfielders, so they won’t want to lose him mid season. I’m 50/50 on whether we can get this done. If we’ve put all our eggs into this basket, we’d better pray we seal the deal before DD.
This is getting beyond tiresome now. Either pay the £90m Brighton want or move onto other targets. We don’t have time to waste!
Now confirmed by Fabrizio - it is abundantly clear we will need to massively overspend if we really want him. If the club are not willing to do that, we need to target other players.
Jorginho??? Cos we haven’t been burned badly enough buying Chelsea players, we just want to add to that . If we honestly go from potentially getting Caicedo to ****ing Jorginho, I give up.
I actually like it. We are going after Rice in the Summer - this is just backup for Partey over the next few months. Baically taking Elneny's position in the squad - but he's way better than Elneny. I also think over 70m for Caceido is insanity.
We've been burnt enough by signing players from Chelsea in recent years. Jorginho is 31, doesn't address any of our problems and seems to be a very desperate, last-ditch attempt at signing someone. I'll reluctantly take him if it's a choice between him and no-one, but I really hope it doesn't come to this. Although I agree the fee for Caicedo is mental, if we were to sign him, he'd be a player that would potentially be at the club for the next 10 years or so (as he's only 21). Besides, if this signing helps us win the league, no-one would be whinging about the exorbitant price tag then.
