Despite up against a Appleby hot pot I do think Soulcombe will run well tomorrow at Leicester [3.51] Each Way @ 14-1 [888 Sport]
Runs tomorrow [5.35 Newcastle] Has a 8-11 Gosden/Dettori horse in his way, but will not be disgraced, and already into 5-2 from 10-3
Do admit that this one is hugely intruging, later on, in that Nusret has to be considered at a crossroads in his career. Is amazingly currently quoted for both The Derby (66/1) and the Triumph Hurdle (50/1). Seems to have emerged from nowhere to be a contender for the former (albeit a big priced one). Although I guess that is understandable given his breeding and the way that other Derby contenders are either falling by the wayside or have so much doubt over their actual participation. Re the latter race I'm sure this quote owes a huge amount to who Nusret's owners are - the Munir / Souede axis. I'm sure the Sligo race will reveal a lot, lot more about Nusret's potential and which direction he will head thereafter. An easy win and that 66/1 won't last long!!! Re that breeding, incidentally, its decent. Most decent. Nusret has 3 siblings who earned black type and his dam is a half-sister to both Conduit (St Leger, King George and dual Breeders Cup Turf winner) and Hard Top (Group 2 victor).
Beaten a head after being matched at 1.05! Questions asked afterwards about his attitude, but to me possibly did not stay
Personally I wouldn't give up on Nusret, just yet, but yes he hardly looks straightforward. The front pair, on Sunday, were 6 lengths clear of the third and I guess how strongly you rate the performance depends on your feelings re the Harrington filly who won the race (Nusret was conceding her 5 lbs). Moving forward re Nusret connections would now have 3 options. (i) remaining in maiden company, (ii) as he has now qualified for a mark moving into handicaps or (iii) having a crack at Listed / Group prizes. Fascinating to see which option this shrewd yard go for. Incidentally, Shark Bay who beat Nusret first time up this term (by half a length off levels) has been given a mark of 93 (had untaken up entries at Chester this week) the UK handicapper.
