Meh.... its borderline. theres life bans given for less rightly or wrongly. It seems to me he's gotten away with a bit here as he's well known for this stuff. If he stood up in anfield and made a plane gesture he'd get life ban (rightly) but he picks on a poor harmless tourist in madrid and its not seen as racist so he gets 3 ears for assaulting someone. I'm torn TBH.
The club could still hand down a longer ban if they wished to couldn't they? As this is a country wide FBO from the courts.
It was Liverpool fans who named and shamed him. There were hundreds of Liverpool fans on social media saying he should get a lifetime ban. Others saying he should stay away from the booze and football as he was an embarrassment and was giving good fans a bad name. He has a reputation for doing this stuff. He needs to grow up.
Two different issues though, 3 years is generally short as a punishment, BUT any FBO is too long. They are a fascist punishment invented by the same people responsible for Hillsborough. They're the legal equivalent of the S*n's "The Truth" headline.
Must say that generally speaking I'm not a fan of how they are used, I don't think you should be able to have such freedoms restricted without being convicted of a criminal offence.
I think clubs should be able to say to fans that if you bring shame/embarrassment on the club's name, you're not welcome on the club's premises.
Yeah I completely agree, and I wouldn't be surprised if that's what you lot did with this twat on top of this. My point was a more general one that I don't think it's right that you can have a court impose an order banning you from 100+ venues in the country without you being convicted of a criminal offence.
I hear what you're saying but a banning order can be applied for even when no criminal conviction has been made. They're looked at on a case by case basis. It would be hard to find anyone who thought what this loon did should go unpunished. As one of the offences took place in Spain he's lucky they didn't order him to surrender his passport when Liverpool are playing abroad. In short, don't act like an idiot either in a football stadium or when out and about following your team. It's good, common sense and not hard to do. Nip bad behaviour in the bud. This idiocy needs a deterrent just as much as being violent or racist does or tipping people in fountains could become a 'thing' knowing that nobody can touch you for it.
