My guess is it wont replace a GP or a lawyer, but it will augment them. So in a GP surgery I could envisage you going through an AI process first to give an indicative diagnosis for the GP to work from. The GP appointment is then about confirming the diagnosis, plus that very human skill of seeing beyond bare data. Empathy, body language, nuance, whatever it may be. That GP sixth sense that something more is going on - maybe they will have more time for that. Maybe in some cases AI could tell you not to see the doc but take some over the counter stuff. All in all though I can see it helping the GP get through more appointments, or doing them better, but not replacing in totality. Same with Lawyers I am sure.

AI is here to stay no doubt. It cant be sentient like humans. It cant feel or empathise. This, to my mind, means it will only ever be an aid to us, never a threat to us, at least not of its own making. Whether some crackpots decide to do bad things with it is another argument. It is really interesting to see a lot of people argue for some top end AI research be paused while some checks and balances are brought in. It does make you wonder if they are having an oppenheimer type moment about what may come down the line. Bit beyond me all of that but I am choosing not to worry about it as that sort of thing seems a long way from reality at the moment.

If we get to the point of all powerful AI , then decide it’s bad or we don’t like it , we can easily destroy it by asking it one question. “ explain how women think “

The cynic in me says that the likes of Elon Musk, Steve Wozniak et al have plenty to gain by slowing down the development of AI (allowing their companies to catch up on their own versions) and as such, they don't have the credibility that they perhaps should do as tech industry experts.

I think there might be something in that mate. ChatGPT caught the world out, and the pace at which it is being embedded is unbelievable to be honest.

Wasn't it Arthur C Clarke who forecast that mans role was to invent computing / artificial intelligence and that it would be this AI that would go off into space and explore the universe. Of course man would then become obsolete and left behind to whither away.
    Something like that anyway

I don't know if it's been mentioned but isn't there a McDonald's somewhere in America without people working in it all done by computers and conveyor belts and ****.

I'm sorry put people who use that place want beating with a stocking full of the diarrhoea of a bloke who had 50 pints of Guinness and a vinadaloo the night before.

If people still use these places they are allowing companies who don't need the ****ing money to keep more of the profits while removing many jobs from the local economy.

I'm a hypocrit though because I use self serve and quick scan checkouts. They were the start of above!

My mate told me about a month back that he was stopped in Morrisons and asked by the lady if she could check his trolley, he said no I’m in a hurry, she said I will have to call the security guard, he told her to call him and said he could check it at his house while he put it away. No security guard.

It must hve been a long time ago, because I can only remember the basics, but one of Azimov's short story's imagined a World run be Computers.
Only a tiny percentage of Humanity were required to oversee these 'machines', the rest of Humanity were, in effect employed to be consumers.
They were also free to pursue 'The Arts', such as Music, Literature, Painting, and sculpture.
These were the things that people tended to do better than computers.

Perhaps Issac's 'THREE LAWS' should be incorperated into AI.
It might help the doubters to sleep better.:emoticon-0130-devil
