Seems Tammy and Reece James now also want 120 big ones a week, like their mate CHO gets, or they won't sign long term contract extensions. If true, is this what we can now expect as normal from all of our youngsters with talent and potential ? Looks a very good reason for the Club to stop promoting kids and reverting to buying superstars. We did that for years and won heaps. I was and still am, a serious opponent to that ,and a fervent promoter of kids. But when the kids act like the 3 named above seem to be acting, even though it is almost certainly driven by their "Agents", it's time for a rethink. If the Club thinks kids deserve promotion to the 1st team squad, why not simply insist they sign a new 6 or 7 year contract, or they don't get into the 1st Team squad? A couple of years to get established, and an already existing 5 year contract is then in place for when and if they make the grade. Wage increases could easily be pre- agreed as part of the contract, so they get a very good salary increase each year, plus a performance bonus for the first couple of years, if they really excel from the start, as Tammy and Reece James have done and Tomori to a degree. The big salaries, which TA and RJ apparently think they are worth now, are usually paid only to established star players, and would be negotiated for the final 5 years, only if they have reached and maintained the level required. Under this scheme,Tammy for instance ,would already be on more than the 50Gs he now gets, because he's earned it. The idiocy of paying kids with no track record is exemplified by what CHO is giving us for his 120Gs a week, which is bugger all. CHO is an overpaid bench warmer now, who will hopefully soon become the player we thought he would become. Or maybe he won't. He should not be earning 70Gs a week more than Tammy, and wouldn't be with a better system in place. The Club takes all the risks, the players none of the risks and none of the consequences. Clubs accept risk with established players, but should not take all the risk with kid. This cannot be allowed to become the norm. It is good for no one. Before the abuse rains down on me for being "Anti CHO", I'm not. It's just that he is the perfect example of why the Chelsea system needs changing. He manipulated the Club, playing on the fans loyalty to him, and he used Bayern as a lever to his own ends. Good on him ,he got what he wanted, but so far we've got nothing in return. In my opinion, at the time and now, we should have sold him to Bayern. We would have had 60 mill towards the fee for Jadon Sancho or someone even better, cause he's also hardly a proven world beater. Mbappe ? At 18 years old, light years better than any of ours and already a World Cup winner.
If that is true and they want 120k already for a third of a seasons good football i say dont bother paying them. Its getting out of control and theres no need to play them as well if they are being unreasonable
but is it unreasonable in the scope of the financial world of the premier league? £30m each for 5 years, you won't replace Abraham for double that, and then you'll have ot pay wages on top, and a premier striker isn't going to move for a pay cut, so you'll have to pay more in wages on top.
That is true but if we set that precedent we could turn into arsenal when all the other kids start asking for 120k and bankrupt us. Of course they should get a rise but not that much. If they think they are better off elsewhere then let them go imo
If Chelsea continue their plan to bring kids through, then we need to get on top of this quickly. It's true that the cost of players has become stupid, and Clubs will always try and buy emerging talent. So why not make Chelsea kids agree to a long contract extension, with appropriate pay rises, as a condition to moving into the 1st Team squad?
They would be better off somewhere else, they'd get the transfer fee as a signing on fee + wages, of which the agent, the probable driving force behind it, will get a nice big portion. The precedent that it'll set it is you'll pay the kids the big money IF they perform to the standard Abraham has. But, at the end of the day, I have no sympathy if the wage demands of your kids bankrupt your club, this is the market that your club and owner helped create.
A young english striker, who, at his current strike rate, will bag us 30 goals a season in all comps...... Easily worth 120k a week.
Hes deffo getting a signing on fee now. They all do when they sign new contracts. Yeah they might do better off but in tammy case hes done well for a third of the season. As for reece james, he looks special but hes literally played 8 games for the club. To demand 120k after that is a joke. They both have two and a half years left on the contract, lets see how they perform for the rest of the season before giving them bumper contracts. If they keep it up i would have no issues but performing for a third of a season is what morata did
At this stage of the season he banged in 10 goals (9 in pl) and grabbed another 2 over christmas Then he turned to ****. In comparisson tammy has 13 goals (11 in pl).
if he bangs in 30 a season on the current market he'd be worth double that at least. How much are you paying Giroud?
He is, and apart from his goals, his general play and workrate has improved heaps. It's the service from the mids that has dropped off.
