Gunter, Dorrington, Bloxham and Donley are probably the ones to watch. Donley’s been making waves for a while now anyway and has played and scored for the U18s a few times already. Bloxham’s wonder goal done the rounds a few months back. Gunter, Dorrington and Donley have all played for the England sides together IIRC.
Best of luck, Matt! Shame to see him go though, he’s a Spurs fan and some of his young lads have made debuts/ the squad this season.
This is a good thing. We should be looking to keep progressing young coaches through our system in exactly this manner. Now we've got a workable destination for loanees to get some real game time and they'll already know the manager and he'll know what they can do. Good luck to him in the future. I hope it works out well for him.
I’d say it’s good and bad. I think Matt’s done a good job the last couple years so he’ll be a loss from that perspective but potentially being a source for multiple loans will also be great. Maybe Mason would be interested in taking over his role after his interim stint is done? Though he may feel that after a taste of first team management he wants more elsewhere.
Nobody's going to stay coaching the U18s forever, so I think we have to take it as a positive. If players see the likes of him and Parker working with our academy and going on to get management positions, then it makes the job more attractive. It's something that we should've been doing for a long time and not filling the role with whoever we can get.
The murmurs of making an offer for Rangnick are interesting, considering his track record of moving youth coaches into first team management such as Tuchel, Nagelsmann etc at the clubs he's been at Just as long as Wayne Burnett doesn't end up following that path, obviously
