Another impressive performance by The Aldershot defence with Jones and Herd outstanding kept a very lively Stoke at bay. The 1-0 win was flattering, with Shotton hitting the upright and then a rasping shot from Pugh tipped over by Young in goal being the 2 noteworthy moments in th efirst half. McGlasham throughout the game gave the Stoke defence a hard time and Gutteridge ruffled a few feathers in the Stoke midfield. All the Aldershot players upped their game for this one, a notable improvement came from Rankine, who, after one of his powerful runs hit the post. The winning goal came late in the game with once again Aldershot finishing strongly, Mekki had a shot parried back to him and made no mistake with his second shot. 1-0 Woodgate for Stoke looked more comfortable as the game went on, his reading of the game still as good as ever. The Stoke supporters sitting next to me were impressed, with Jones, Herd, Gutteridge and especially McGlasham, who they wouldn't mind having in their squad.
