He’s a good manager with an excellent pedigree, but he plays god awful football! Similar tactically to Bruce yet they loved Rafa and hate Bruce!!

I just watched MOTD and have to say, WTF is Shearer talking about?

He's claiming that Newcastle supporters only want their club to be ambitious like Southampton!

Southampton sell their best players, pick up loans/end of loan players, and have a squad that probably only cost two and a half Joelintons.

Their manager is an unknown who's been sacked and pushed out of his previous clubs ...

... imagine the outrage if he'd replaced King Rafa.

Their team yesterday had 'finished' Walcott, Stephens from Boro and McCarthy who struggled to get into the Palace team iirc.

    Shearer is talking nonsense.

Benitez spent more at Newcastle and you couldn't even start to compare the net spend.

He did great with Valencia no question.

I remember hearing that at half time against AC (they were 3-0 down I think?) Benitez didn't have a clue what to say to them, so Gerrard stood up and did the job for him and they went on to turn it round but not because of the manager.

I see him as a one hit wonder who's coasted on that success for his whole career. When he's had a team who weren't packed with superstars (Newcastle, Chinese team) he's shown his true capabilities imo. This isn't an anti Newcastle thing btw I thought it about him long before he went there.

    OOPS, Bruce wants out ...

    ... fans fault again.

He'd have gotten away with it if it wasn't for them pesky supporters.

Newcastle United manager Steve Bruce says some of the "mass hysteria" around his side after a "bad week" is "unjust and unfair".

    https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/55458977

    https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/14966487

"Sunderland manager Steve Bruce is surprised by the 'mass hysteria' in the media leading up to today's win against Stoke."

“It shows you how difficult it is up here. The mass hysteria, I find some of it pathetic, to be honest. It engulfs you with two results, which I find disappointing."

Can you imagine how the mags feel this morning after Xmas has gone
    Owner is Mike Ashley
Manager is terminal loser Steve Bruce
    Don’t own their ground
Have virtually no chance of a takeover
Capitulation second half of the season
Seeing your neighbours bouncing around as though they’ve got a pogo stick up there arse yet still being two divisions below them.
Ha ha brilliant just bloody brilliant <diva><laugh>

All you'd get out of them though is this face and "turd division".

The only worrying thing is they might sack Bruce and get someone more competent if their form continues.

That offside rule change about not putting the flag up straight away is a bit of a joke. Someone will end up getting injured through playing on until the late flag goes up.

Ashley will be watching the situation carefully, he's actually quite interesting as an owner. Bruce has started blaming the fans and we know that's his usual 'get me out of here' card. They slipped another place last night and have Liverpool next before which Burnley, Brighton and West Brom all have 'winnable' games.

I think Ashley will bank on Bruce keeping them up though, then see who's available in the summer. Lampard may have been sacked, Gerrard will want to leave Rangers on a high and Pulis will be available. Pulis may look like an odd choice but he plays the safe negative style that Benitez employed.

    I hope it's him tbh.

Looks like I was wrong about Solskjaer, I thought he was going to be a poor appointment but I'd say he's got them punching above their weight which we all know is the sign of a good manager and they're a stones throw away from first.

Not the easiest squad dynamic either with Pogba being so unpredictable and inconsistent but also the big name in the group.

Didn't get United's winning pen, seemed to be that he touched him and he fell over so it's inarguable. Bizarre how it's become so normal for a player to tap another player on the shoulder and it's a legitimate foul because technically there was contact.

I really want SAFC to get back to the Premier League but I fear what state the rules will be in by the time we get there. It's virtually a non contact sport and VAR has failed miserably imo. It seems to suck the life out of the games, fans can't celebrate until someone (just as inept as the bloke on the pitch) has a look at it on a replay a dozen times. It just doesn't seem like the same sport as 10 or so years ago.

Wow. Wan-bisaka lad - that interview is horrendous. He doesn't even know how the goals were scored. Andy Cole, Darren Bent and Dave Jones are laughing their cocks off.

It's getting weird for me. If you're a defender running next to an attacker, you make any form of contact and the striker dives it's very much a legit foul. If a corner comes in the attacker and defender are allowed to wrestle as much as they like as long as nobody hits the deck and if they do the free kick will go to the defence.

Kicking the ball away and intentional handballs, these should both be automatic yellows but it depends what mood the refs in and how early in the game it happens apparently.
