Rear wing and further weight shedding for Alpine at Barcelona. https://www.autosport.com/f1/news/alpine-to-bring-new-f1-rear-wing-to-spanish-gp/10305728/
Alpine are coming with a brand new floor for Silverstone. The chatter about it seems like they expect a decent performance gain from it- interesting.
All the improvements "seem" to me to be about retaining downforce they already have (ground effect at least) while reducing drag? Would this be correct?
For Alpine yes, that’s seemingly what they’ve done for up until this point. It would be interesting to see if they really find some downforce with this upgrade as they’d begin to be getting towards Red Bulls model of being very quick in a straight line whilst also very good in corners.
Alpine bringing it this weekend! Only expected a floor but here we go: below is new (top) v old (bottom)
Alonso explaining when he signed, who he informed and how. He told Rossi, all seniors, his engineers. He did not tell Ottmar- I suspect this might have been something Aston Martin egged him on to do! Pretty damning on him and presumably Ottmar may have been the one who didn’t want him to have the two year guaranteed deal
Alpine ran a “secret” shakedown at Silverstone this week- here’s a sneak peak at their car….what is that thing?!
@moreinjuredthanowen Looks like Alpine have the same engine bulge as the Merc teams …any relevance to split turbo designs? Or maybe some sort of cooling/reliability?
its a bit of a coincidence every merc engine team has the same bump up there and now alpines engine shows up. the renault/alpine approach seem to be to minimise body so is more obviously following the innards.
Nice shot of the Alpine on track last week that just begins to show the detail on the sidepod, as the renders sometimes make it look a flat or rounded surface.
Its interesting front to back. The high front wing has been abandoned somewhat by aston but this car has it. the rear upper body is quite high. a lot of teams are running like this now and driving that dirty air out the back away from beam wing and rear wing. the alipine body is quite interesting in that channel they have created as a bump. that air is powering some part of the rear. Brakes? Beam wing? top of diffuser? I have a strong feeling this car will not deliver what this team is hoping for but making such a guess off bodywork is bound to blow up in my face. Haas, williams and renault out the back is my call.
3 air flows like merc. no bypass vent? massive strut wire holding floor up. nose is absolutely covered in vortex spinning struts
