Trophy cabinet jokes in 3...2...oh wait, here they are https://www.leaderscouncil.co.uk/news/harry-kane-awarded-the-hannibal-prize
Bravo Harry, it's about time someone in football admitted there has to be a time limit to ****ing the game up. One season should never impact on another regardless of the situation.
Here's an interesting stat (copied from someone else, so this is assuming they are right) Percentage of goals coming from penalties: Shearer 21% Vardy 17% Aguero 14% Kane 10% And considering how many pens we don't get, Kane could easily have a lot more goals. It's also worth remembering that when the pundits talk about top goalscorers they never talk about the percentage that comes from pens. It is also concerning that Kane might one day look back on some of the incidents for which certain other teams would have got a penalty, and think that he could score far more goals if he simply went to one of those clubs. (And of course if he did, let's say ManU, and scored 10 more goals in a season because he had 10 more penalties, the pundits would then say that ManU "took Kane to another level". When nothing has actually changed. Come on, you know they would.)
Shearer scored 260 Premier League goals and 56 were penalties. That's 21.5%. He missed 11. 83.6% conversion rate. Jamie Vardy has scored 103 Premier League goals and 18 were penalties. That's a little under 17.5%. He's missed 4. 81.8% conversion rate. Sergio Aguero has scored 180 Premier League goals and 26 were penalties. That's a little under 14.5%. He's missed 5. 83.8% conversion rate. Harry Kane has scored 140 Premier League goals and 20 were penalties. That's a little under 14.3%. He's missed 3. 87% conversion rate.
Heard this earlier on the radio, Harry Kane is the only player to have scored in the PL on every single day (mon-sun) and in every single month (jan-dec)
And against every single team that he's faced in the Premier League. He's not bad. We should keep him.
I think he still needs to prove it over the long term. Any Tom Dick or Harry #cough# can score 200 goals, but can he keep it going. Not sure. If and when he beats Shearer's Premier League record, then and only then should he get any credit.
