Where to begin? Here's a track from the first Anarcho Punk LP I bought (Conflict - Only Stupid Bastards Help EMI) and a track from Culture Shock who are reforming this autumn and doing a tour, so I've heard, hope it's true.
I've never really listened to Culture Shock before, they sounded alright, a bit like early Ruts. I'll give them a listen. They're meant to be playing Glasgow in October. I'm never sure what's Anarcho Punk or not these days, but the first band I came across was probably one of the obvious - Crass. Great, the Culture Shock tour dates have been announced: http://www.cultureshock.me.uk/ Glad to see they are playing Tottenham as I'm on the line that stops at Tottenham Hale. Hate having to leave early for the last train. Culture Shock formed out of the Subhumans - another top band. Crass were without doubt the first and the biggest anarcho band in the UK, the USA had the Dead Kennedys, Black Flag and others. It wasn't all men shouting, sometimes it was women shouting. Culture Shock are playing couple of miles from me in Gateshead. Wouldn't have minded going. I've come across Black Flag because of Henry Rollins and they were alright. I'll have a listen to the Poison Girls.
You should go, I saw them once before they split up, 1989 or 1990, brilliant live band. I expect there's an anarcho scene in Gateshead, should pull in all the old punks in the North East.
There's a couple of decent places in Gateshead for live bands that tend to pull in decent crowds. No chance for me, have an op coming up that's gonna f*** is for a while.
Even my bird wants to go to see Culture Shock, think I've only taken her to one anarcho gig and that was 1995 - Conflict, Subhumans and Dirt in a squatted warehouse near Kings Cross. Best wishes for the op.
