The article I read on it said they can't grow together anymore, what the **** that means I don't know.
Worth reviving **** of the month for that. Although they would win this and every month into the future.
I’ve occasionally used Amazon, but only if any other direct from shop options aren’t available...which is practically never. I’d rather buy stuff knowing it helps local people or at the very least helps tax revenue nationally.
I make sure they don't get any tax free profit from the bastards. I get my stuff off knock off Bob in the pub. That'll learn 'em.
It's a disgrace but as things stand Amazon are breaking no laws. There needs to be dialogue at, I don't know, G7 level maybe, to address how these massive globalised companies can be taxed fairly. It shouldn't be left to the companies themselves to reorganise their business so that they are seen to be paying tax because the amounts will almost certainly be nominal. It's a big, big issue and I don't think govts around the world know how to deal with it and there are also lots of vested interests. If the British govt gets heavy couldn't Amazon easily say ok we'll take all our distribution centres and the jobs out of UK to somewhere more friendly so you could end up with net zero gain?
It’s not actually true that they pay no tax, around 20% of that £38b is VAT and there’s income tax paid on over 50,000 staff. They obviously need to be paying more, though what they’re doing is legal, they are actually fiddling the numbers to show no profit in the EU, when they’re actually making billions.
That's the point really, it needs to be made less easy to do legally. Most businesses will try to minimise their profits within legal boundaries it's just the numbers with these multi-nationals are so eye-wateringly huge that they get noticed more! Isn't it something to do with where they invoice from or some other accounting technicality like that?
Got to laugh really. Bill and Melinda Gates apparently agreed a divorce settlement before they announced the split, it's all amicable apparently, but they've still appointed 3 lawyers each to represent them! Different world.
According to one article that claimed to be accurate, his money is building so fast, if he dropped $100, he'd have made another $200 in the time it takes him to bend down and pick it up.
