Righto, I'm going to try being positive only in this thread, hopefully basing my optimism on more than just blind faith and denial of reality. By all means feel free to shoot me down in flames, accuse me of being mentally unstable or an apologist, I can take it... Okay, reasons to be cheerful, part 1; Did you know...? Charlton have only won more than 2 of their opening 5 league matches four times in the last 13 seasons; 2005-06 (Prem) won 4, lost 1 ... finished 13th safe in mid table. 2009-10 (L1) won all 5 ... finished 4th, lost in the play-off semis. 2011-12 (L1) won 4, drew 1 ... finished Champions with 101 points! 2017-18 (L1) won 4, lost 1 ... ??? All of our nothing or relegation seasons have started poorly. Even the myth that we started the 2015-16 season well under Guy Luzon is not really true. We won 2, drew 2, lost 1. That isn't a dreadful start, but it was all downhill from there. So COME ON YOU REDS! Turn a good start into a promotion season. I thank you
I must admit I'm beginning to wonder if KR is turning out to be a good Charlton manager. If you forget about the fact that he talks sh1te when he's got a microphone under his nose and look at the way the team are playing there are grounds for being cautiously optimistic, and if we get good results against the better teams promotion will become a reasonable expectation, even with only one striker. And the really good news would be Roland selling if promotion enables him to get the price he wants.
hold on....?????... have I signed into ITTV by mistake?............................... GET A GRIP LADS!
Remember the 2005 start well - it was Chelsea and us who had won the opening 4 games then they beat us 0-2 at The Valley. Mourinhos first trip to the Valley if memory serves. Darren Bents first season, more significantly.
I was on holiday abroad for the first 3 games, unable to find out the scores, and was totally gobsmacked to find we'd won the first 3.
Was totally gobsmacked what happened at the end of the season But I mean, we did force him out after all (sarcasm).
I've just had a thought that has cheered me up One day I'll be able to bring this thread to a conclusion with the ultimate good news. I think you know what I'm referring to. But until that time comes I'll do my best to spread a little happiness here when circumstances allow...
Patrick Bauer nominated for EFL Player of the Month (L1) https://www.cafc.co.uk/news/view/59afbc4d2e828/bauer-nominated-for-player-of-the-month He probably won't get it - I expect Jack Marriott of Peterborough will win. But the nomination itself is a clear sign Charlton are getting things right this season so far, even if there are important areas to strengthen and there is a long way to go. In season 2011-12 Chris Powell won Manager of the Month three times - by the end of September we may well see Robinson being nominated for that honour for the first time since he joined Charlton.
The good news is that Palace are 3 points clear at the bottom, with Roy "I don't know what I'm doing here" Hodgson at the helm. I don't expect to see our little friend for a while.
Perhaps not 'good news' in its purest form, but nevertheless least bad news; Ricky Holmes picked up his fifth yellow card against Gillingham (nice and late in the game to avoid a risk of accidentally collecting another one and getting sent off). So he will now miss our match with 22nd place Bury at the Valley ... a match we might reasonably be expected to win even without him on the pitch. When I began this thread I promised myself I would not post anything ironic, and I maintain this is not the case here. Better that Holmes gets his one match suspension out of the way soon. After Bury we play mid-table Walsall away, then Fleetwood (7th) again away, and Peterborough (2nd) at home.
Sorry Lardi, after yesterday's performance we can't reasonably expect to beat anybody ... at home or not!
5 yellows by the middle of sept is terrible to be fair. Another 5 sees him get a 2 game ban and fine. Needs to have a word with himself!
Ricky Holmes has been named PFA Player Of The Month for September; https://www.cafc.co.uk/news/view/59...mes-wins-league-one-player-of-the-month-award Even though our Club no longer has a heartbeat the first team still does, and it's name is Ricky Holmes. A fantastic example of commitment and fighting spirit
