Sunderland AFC can confirm that Andrew Taylor has left his role as first-team coach. The former Middlesbrough and Cardiff City defender moved to Wearside in September 2019, joining Phil Parkinson’s backroom team and continuing his role following Lee Johnson’s appointment. Born in Hartlepool, Taylor departs the Stadium of Light to undertake a new role at Leeds United as the Premier League outfit’s Loans Manager. Following Taylor’s departure, Lee Johnson said: “We really enjoyed working with Andy on a football level and a human level, so he leaves with our best wishes. He he has a lot of football knowledge and has also completed his football directorship, so this step is a natural progression for him. He joins a great club, a big club, in Leeds United and it is a really good role for him. We thank him for his work and I hope that we will be able to connect with him again in the future.” All at SAFC would like to thank Andrew for his dedication over the past two years and wish him the very best of luck in his new role. The process to appoint a new first-team coach is currently underway and a further update will be issued following the conclusion of this process.
Was only tweeted 3 hrs ago and the club website article is dated today - I would assume it was tweeted as soon as the article was posted.
Announced from the Leeds end yesterday but, as it was quoted in The Chronicle, "It has not yet been confirmed by Sunderland but Taylor's LinkedIN profile has confirmed his new role." Still, doesn’t matter when exactly the news broke, it raises two questions; 1) Why didn't any of you who saw about this yesterday bother to tell the rest of us? 2) What is the impact on the team of losing our 1st team coach now, right before the season starts?
Great news. The club needs a total reshape and these are the sort of areas we need to be looking at changing up.
You don't come on here to discuss our coach leaving but to gripe about it having been known about earlier elsewhere?! Well I don't give a flying fcuk if, when or where else it was posted! I hadn't seen anybody on HERE post about it. I'm not trying to claim to be ITK or anything, I just thought it worth talking about and it helps keep the board ticking over.
after last seasons failure it was bound to happen, to much sideways and backwards passing, and not enough play to excite the crowds
Doesn't the coach do the drills that the manager, sorry the head coach, wants? Those who are picked to play and the style of play is dictated by the head coach and it is them who carry the can or reap the plaudits. Whatever, LJ said that Taylor had passed his football directorship qualifications and was moving into football administration. If he was being moved on due to coaching deficiencies then surely we would have done that before preseason? As it is, LJ is without Macca for the first 2 games (still suspended from the dugout) and his stand in has now left the club.
He's left for a promotion hasn't he. Doing a completely different role that he's been studying for a long time to get the qualifications for and a job at a premier league team comes up. Don't blame him tbh.
i always though it was the coach who would instill in players if the attacking looks hard, better pass backwards and sideways, still thanks for your post mate i appreciate your effort ,as a lot just read with no contribution im not bothered he has left, in my mind we can do better as we wernt very good last season at keeping the ball, along with stringing more than 5 passes together before losing the ball
I replied that it was out on Sunday last and your having a go at me! I may be logged in everyday but I don't live on this forum everyday like some but I do read newspapers and listen to local radio, that how I knew.... Give over man
