His contract isn't being renewed. http://www.theguardian.com/football/2015/jan/08/andy-townsend-itv-contract-not-renewed Hope they replace him with someone tolerable. Not holding my breath.
I see Matt Smith is gone too. No bad thing. They ought to say goodbye to Clive Tyldesley as well. The combination of an England match, plus Tyldesley and Townsend together is wrist slitting material, because of their ever hopeful noises that they make, instead of an honest, yes, England are crap once again. I'd have respect for that opinion. But the simple fact is, ITV shouldn't do any sport at all. In fact, they ought to do nothing at all. They are hopeless at pretty much everything. There is not a single programme that they do where I can safely say, yes, I'll watch that, because they produce programming material to appeal more to an alsation dog rather than to me.
The salient Mr Football Cliches is right. http://babb.telegraph.co.uk/2014/12...want-but-he-is-the-co-commentator-we-deserve/
What football is even on itv next season? As CL's going to BT, isit just internationals they'll be doing?
If there is football on itv next year then i am thankful that Townsend wont feature. Even though he is an ex Saint.
They are going to try to get Premier League highlights off the Beeb. If they do it they'll screw it up as always. I probably won't even bother tuning into their programme if they get the rights. I mean, it's not a question that they might screw it up. It's merely to what degree they do it. You know, I know it, everybody knows it.
I don't need much of an excuse to open a bottle of champagne but Townsend disappearing from our TV screens is probably the best excuse yet.
Oh for **** sake, I really hope that doesn't happen, I remember "The Premiership" last time they had it and it was shocking!
Ha! I didn't realise so many people had same opinion as me about AT & ITV commentators & pundits in general. Nice to know.
If they get it you can expect the games chosen as the main matches will always be those that they believe will draw the maximum viewers so that they can maximise their advertisement revenue. Nothing to do with technical merit or entertainment. I therefore expect the Sky four to hog 90% of each programme.
ITV was always the worst for sport even when you cast your mind back to when there were only 2 channels.
