Geordie folklore (definition number 7) says that a Geordie is one who is born on the North side of the river Tyne within a one mile radius of Newcastle. That means I'm in, though my youngest, born at Dryburn, is an immigrant Geordie.

I heard that 'Geordies' came from the fact that the local miners continued to use George Stephenson's safety lamp instead of adopting the Davey lamp like the rest of the country.

One cannot help nor choose where one is born. My dad took me to my first Newcastle game but I wouldn't regard him as a geordie as he was born in Scotland. My natural father (by birth) is a mackem through and through, thankfully I have nowt to do with him (a) cos he's a **** and (b) cos he's a mackem.

You wouldn't follow us for the fame and glory so anybody who does is alreet in my book.

Born in Crawley, never lived north of the Thames.

3.5 Hours to Paris, 4 hours to Newcastle on the train.

Don't think I consider myself a Geordie though much like many up there don't consider themselves to be a Cockney, manx or scouser if they support another team.

Defo part of the Toon Army though...

No one has actually really definitively identified how the name came about although the civil war story generally seems to be the strongest. However those defending Newcastle came from around the area not just the city itself so in my book a Geordie is someone from the general Tyneside area with no defined limits.

I thought the definition of a true Geordie was lived in Jakarta and has season tickets at Man Utd.

Born in Fenham but moved away when very young, so thankfully don't have the accent. Family moved back up there a few years ago, so I'm regularly in the area.
