Trying to be fair now, the top order of both sides has struggled in this test, just England's seems to have struggled more.
With England being piss poor and all the problems at Yorkshire (points deductions probably the best case scenario IF the members vote Patel in on Thursday, loss of internationals and probable insolvency if they don't) I've never been less enthusiastic about the start of the cricket season
Essentially now ten for eight going into Day 4. The draw is 250-1. I don't think they're expecting rain.
Perhaps this will finally see a new captain at the helm, we are in transition as a team, and while Root is a world class batsman, as a captain he is poor. Let him concentrate on what he does best and get someone in who can actually captain the team properly.
Root says he wants to carry on, but I think it is time for him to take the pressure off himself and concentrate on his batting, the likelihood is that it will be taken out of his hands when a new leader comes in. His record is abysmal, maybe it is the cards he has been dealt to a certain degree, but it just feels like it needs a new approach now.
Maybe you have to look around the county game and see if there is a good captain that is tactically aware and a good man manager. A captain in Cricket is a much more important role than in many other sports, just because you are a good player doesn't always mean you are a good captain and leader of men.
Agree, Mike Brearley epitomised that. Sam Billings and James Vince being talked up a bit around the press. The current crop of batsmen and (fit) bowlers make it a bit of a poisoned chalice though imo.
You have to start somewhere, I just feel Joe is hanging on and it is not helping him or the team. His field placings are questionable at times, also his rotation of bowlers. I think we need to start afresh and build from a new base.
Short term fix Morgan, but he isnt the answer admittedly .. we need a forward thinking aggressive captain, all this hanging around forever trying g to protect your wicket then getting out for 20 runs isnt doing as any good at all. This started with Silverwood, we need to have a go, not sit like rabbits in the headlights waiting to be run over.
But not go hell for leather like under the previous coach. The aussie white ball specialist whose name escapes me. Shot selection is the key
