EPL 21/02/2015 : Aston Villa 1-2 Stoke City After a good start, culminating in Sinclair's opening goal for AVFC, this game became very scrappy, with too much heading tennis, which played into Stoke's hands. On the plus side, AVFC showed more attacking intent, getting those bodies into the box and forcing corners. The negative was not the style of play, but constant misplaced passes, which led to loss of possession and the breakdown of our moves. There was frequent use of the long ball, to launch attacks, but most of these long balls were intercepted by the Stoke defence. Stoke equalised just before half-time. Watching the game progress from Upper Trinity Row C, I had the feeling that we would get yet another last minute kick in the teeth and so it proved. Another Villa attack broke down, Stoke counter-attacked, Vlaar conceded the penalty as the last man, was dismissed and Stoke scored their winner in injury time. This frustrating defeat sees AVFC drop to 19th (on goal difference) in the EPL. EPL 28/02/2015 : Newcastle United 1-0 Aston Villa That was an open game with much more attacking play from AVFC, getting the ball forward at every opportunity and giving Benteke in particular the chances to score. It was just Sod's Law that : a} We lost. b} We had the ball in the net twice, but both 'goals' were offside. AVFC remain 19th in the EPL. EPL 03/03/2015, Aston Villa 2-1 West Bromwich Albion AVFC, on the front foot virtually throughout the match, made goal-scoring opportunities, took one, had the setback of the opposition equalising but nevertheless did not give up and finally ... got that stroke of luck, a last minute penalty (thanks, Ben Foster), which Benteke cooly converted. MOTM for me though was Ciaran Clark. Now this is not the end ... It is not even the beginning of the end ... But it is, perhaps, The End of the beginning.
