EFL1 (Championship), Saturday 12/01/2019 : Wigan Athletic 3-0 Aston Villa

Just one word to describe AVFC's 'performance' today : Dross. Fair play to Wigan, they wanted the game more and deserved their victory. AVFC drop to 12th but despite this defeat are still 5 points off the play-off places as the combination of results elsewhere went in our favour. However, that will be of no use at all if our team keeps playing in the dismal and disjointed manner we have witnessed today.

    Attendance : 13,882 (SSN)

After this result AVFC's total Form Points fell from 67 to 65 ... that is, points after 46 games.
The maximum available is now 95 points, with 57 points left to play for.
AVFC stay above par and are 12th in the table, with 38 points and GD at +6 from 27 games.

EFL1 (Championship), Saturday 19/01/2019 : Aston Villa v Hull City, KO 15:00 hours.

13/01/2019 : This game is another potential double for AVFC.

My AVF prediction, made today : Aston Villa 2-1 Hull City - more in hope than judgement.

Going by my Twitter feed and the SSN Live Commentary it looks like a valiant comeback by AVFC, but one neccesitated by yet more defensive frailties and resulting in yet another draw. AVFC stay 12th pending the result of the late game today. A win would have lifted us to 8th, so it is another opportunity missed.

Per the SSN Live Commentary the attempts (including goals) were 6-5 & 12-6 = 18-11 to AVFC.

    Attendance : 33,619 (SSN)

    Update.
After this result AVFC's total Form Points fell from 65 to 64 ... that is, points after 46 games.
The maximum available is now 93 points, with 54 points left to play for.
AVFC stay above par and are 13th in the table, with 39 points and GD at +6 from 28 games.

Swansea won the late game and rose to 9th, pushing the teams below them down one place. If AVFC had won today then we would have been 8th, irrespective of Swansea's result. We are now 7 points off the play-off places.

EFL1 (Championship), Saturday 26/01/2019 : Aston Villa v Ipswich Town, KO 15:00 hours.

21/01/2019 : We confront bad memories on Saturday (Australia Day) with a team managed by Paul Lambert and in danger of going down. Let us trust that AVFC does not go 'down under' in this match !!!

My AVF prediction, made today : Aston Villa 3-1 Ipswich Town - Let's get back on track.

I predicted 3-1 but Sod's Law gave my default prediction score in a match that looks like it should have been 4-1 to AVFC, if not more. The Ipswich goal was a 'worldie'. This result lifts AVFC to 10th, 4 points off the play-off places, but games in hand above mean we should assume the gap is still 7 points.
Per the SSN Live Commentary the attempts (including goals) were 11-3 & 13-4 = 24-7 to AVFC.

    Attendance : 33,653 (SSN)

After this result AVFC's total Form Points rose from 64 to 67 ... that is, points after 46 games.
The maximum available is still 93 points, with 51 points left to play for.
AVFC stay above par and are 10th in the table, with 42 points and GD at +7 from 29 games.

29/01/2019 : A game AVFC should win, but I am going for the narrowest margin this time.

My AVF prediction, made today : Reading 0-1 Aston Villa

Nothing to report other than yet another draw, which lifts AVFC to 9th and 4 points off 6th but, half of the teams in the play-off places have a game in hand. Going by the SSN Live Commentary we should have won this match, the attempts (including goals) were 6-5 & 7-2 = 11-7 to AVFC, but once again we have dropped 2 points.

    Attendance : 17,458 (SSN)

04/02/2019 : This is one of the 6 anti-doubles AVFC have this Season. The fixture at Brammal Lane was that 1-4 loss. Let there be no repeat of that on Friday.

My AVF prediction, made today : Aston Villa 2-1 Sheffield United

That was a get out of gaol job and AVFC avoid another anti-double. Justice was served too, considering SUFC's second goal should have been disallowed, for offside and a foul on the goalkeeper. It must be recognised though that SUFC were the better team tonight and they will probably be kicking themselves for missing out on going top of the table.

10/02/2019 : Seeing that we have not beaten Brentford since 2016, I blame our previous Managers ... I wonder if our current Manager will be able to break this hoodoo ?

I have seen nothing of this match apart from a couple of clips and Brentford's winner during the S0ccer Special. I count myself lucky. This result leaves AVFC in 10th, 7 points off the play-offs, but read that as 10 points as the teams above have a game in hand.

The stream was duff so I have only seen the clips on SSN. The play-offs are very distant now.
Although the gap is still 7 points, games in hand above have extended it to 13 points.

After this result AVFC's total Form Points fell from 63 to 61 ... that is, points after 46 games.
The maximum available is now 83 points, with 39 points left to play for.
AVFC stay above par (just) and are 10th in the table, with 44 points and GD at +4 from 33 games.

A decent tribute to Gordon Banks preceded this match, credit all involved.
Going by the SSN highlights it seems AVFC could have won the game, but we have had to settle for yet another draw, symptomatic of the Mid-table mediocrity that has become the norm (again). The gap to the play-offs (6th place) has widened to 8 points, which becomes 14 points including games in hand above.

After this result AVFC's total Form Points remained at 61 ... that is, points after 46 games.
The maximum available is now 81 points, with 36 points left to play for.
AVFC stay above par (just) and are 11th in the table, with 45 points and GD at +4 from 34 games.

26/02/2019 : After the midweek games, in which teams have played some or all of their games in hand, AVFC drop to 13th.
We are now 8 points off 6th place, which becomes 11 points with the game in hand above.

My AVF prediction, made today : Aston Villa 2-1 Derby County
