Buy British whenever you can. Get behind our producers and farmers.
Help the environment by cutting international transport costs and pollution.

    Don't be like ASDA

Shame on them for reneging on a promise to buy only British beef.

I bet they aren't making as much of a fanfare about going back on their worthless word as they made when they announced that hollow promise.

Easier said than done! We don't make things any more. Try going in to an ironmonger and buying something that's not made in China. Even firms like Russell and Hobbs or Qualcast which you think are British turn out to be made in C***a. A lot of things are so cheap that you wonder if forced labour was used.

I don't think your takeaway is imported Smudger :emoticon-0163-pizza
Even all those lagers that make a big thing out of being Danish (or wherever) are actually :emoticon-0171-star: brewed in the UK :emoticon-0171-star:<applause>

    Practically forced labour, for sure.

    On my first post,
I just think it's particularly cheap of ASDA.

When they 'committed' to buying British beef, all they really meant was they'll buy it if it's cheap.
NOT that they were going to go out of their way (like suck up a hit on their profit margin) in order to buy British.

False Patriotism, to hoodwink customers. Shameful.

If the British public didn't nearly always go for the cheapest option this wouldn't happen. This includes quite wealthy people, not just those suffering financial hardship.

Unfortunately where I live we haven’t got a decent Indian takeaway so it’ll be a chinky <cheers> and I normally have fish and chips in the summer months on the beach :emoticon-0182-poolp

Very much this. ASDA can put Bristish and foreign beef on the shelf and see which one the customer prefers, but a lot of people will put the price before the nationality of the dead cow, and ASDA have to pay their staff.

I don't mind ASDA selling whatever they like.

I do mind them wrapping the Union flag round themselves for cheap publicity, then welching on their vaunted promises.
