So what do we think of these 3 midfielders being kept on next season as back ups allowing us to spend on quality rather than quantity.

Player 1) Isaac Hayden; limited or was that just the Bruce effect? Can Howe and team work their magic on him like they have done with others already at the club?

Player 2) Elliott Anderson; has a great loan last season getting rave reviews and EH thinks he has potential. Should he be given a chance it would a loan to a top half championship team be better?

Player 3) Joe White; come back from a loan spell at Exeter. Early on in his loan spell was getting very good reviews. On his return he was drafted to the first team squad despite not being able to play.

Hayden is a box to box player (back up for Longstaff/Joelinton)

Anderson is a more attacking midfielder but looks like he needs minutes

White again is an attacking midfielder but could he make the jump?

What do I think about the suggestion that Hayden is kept on as back up?

    Are you drinking meths already?

We keep poor quality players to get a better quality of player by not buying to many players and concentrating on quality rather than numbers.. Yeah, I understand.

You do realise we haven’t had Hayden this season as he’s been out on loan. Why on Earth should we need him next season?

Unless you’ve been drinking meths already?

Hayden, Hendrick and Clark need to be recalled, EXACTLY the kind of players we need for a decent Champions League run, and a challenge for the league title.

For the reasons I’ve stated. Can EH and team work on him? Was it just the Bruce effect? He was average under Rafa.

He was deemed by EH as not good enough to keep this season . He kept other players in preference. He’s not had a good season at Norwich and we should simply get rid. No reason exists to keep him save we are unable to get rid of him as no one else wants him which wouldn’t exactly be a ringing endorsement or reason to keep him.

Hayden- no. He’s just not good enough.

Anderson- massive potential but I am not seeing enough progress yet. Another loan maybe required.

White- agains massive potential apparently but I’ve not seen anything of him so can’t comment.

So for me. Rid of Hayden and keep the other two. But I think Anderson needs a season in the championship.

Was he though? I thought he left because he was wanting to leave the club in general. He hasn’t had a good season as he hasn’t played due to injury.

That’s what I thought. He wanted to play and EH told him he wouldn’t get much game time.

I think Hayden is championship quality (only my opinion).

    Is Hendrick coming back?

I hope Hendrick isn’t coming back. Though he has a similar goals to games ratio for us as Bruno does and that was under a Steve Bruce <laugh> <whistle>

Cos we don't want a Championship level player back in the team when we're going for the Premier league title?

By all accounts he played 45 games and scored 4 for reading…… Who got relegated and only won 2 in 22 toward the end of the season.

Please dear god let him leave.

I didn’t mention Hendrick or Clark.

i also stated that keeping him as back up to allow quality to be bought.

if said quality midfielder was bought then we’d have him, Bruno, Longstaff, Joelinton and Willock for 3 places. The chances therefore of Hayden playing are slim but would be a good option in cups. This is assuming the Bruce effect is lifted and EH can improve him

You've been drinking the Munson Cool-Ade again. That's the only explanation for this thread and that particular post.

    But if you are serious:

Hayden - no. We have a 25man squad without him and will need a better 25man squad next season if we are in Europe.

Anderson - definitely keep him. He needs game time but we will have more games next season. Europa League would be ideal for him, as I suspect we would be playing our strongest side if we qualify for Champions League.

Joe White - probably needs another loan, preferably at a Championship side. He can't go straight from playing in this to the black and white stripes.

It was just a discussion point considering we’re lacking midfielders.
Personally I feel we need to splash the cash and one top drawer midfielder who walks in to the starting line up alongside Bruno. However, I also feel we need two midfielders. Some people are saying we have hundreds of millions to spend whereas others are saying it’s closer to £100m which means we have to be careful. I’ve also seen were linked to Lerma of Bournemouth and tbh I’m not sure he’s an upgrade on Hayden

    I reckon you’re right with 100m maximum.

I can see us possibly selling ASM to generate funds as we have plenty in that position. Not that I want us to sell.

Maddison ideally. Then we can keep Anderson and White. Possibly loan them.

Hayden has already said he doesn’t want to stay at the club so he will be sold or loaned out.
