I am the new kid on the block so my opinion probably ranks lower than more established members. But I quite enjoy a chance to bandy points of view around, I may learn something and I may impart something. Of course first and foremost it's a Charlton forum but in my opinion we don't have the depth of membership or enough going on in the club to make Charlton an exclusive topic. Otherwise we end up with fantasy teams and the like to pad out the spaces between games.
Personally I'm content with things the way they are, but it' certainly worth reading what everybody thinks about this. I tend to agree with the Pub Landlord; if we had 30 or 40 regular posters we could perhaps concentrate more on football & Charlton matters. But with around a dozen of us posting regularly, and some (like me) not experts on tactics or player combinations etc. informed contributions may sometimes be thin on the ground. I think it helps to have some other things to chat about, to keep things ticking over during times when the football itself or newsworthy events at the Club aren't happening. But the direction of the forum is for all of us to shape, and all of our opinions are of equal value. If there is a clear consensus in any direction I'll make adjustments if members are happy for me to do that. The forum belongs to every member after all.
Just for information, here is a 'snap shot' summary of the first two thread list pages of this forum (not including sticky threads) The first two pages represent threads used most often. Page 1 (20 threads) 11 Charlton or Football related threads 6 non-football threads: Post-Brexit thread Coronavirus thread News thread Good news thread Coffee thread Women wearing lycra thread 3 threads relating to this forum or members: Decline of this forum thread Ban non-football topics thread TC is alright thread Page 2 (20 threads) 18 Charlton or football related threads 1 non-football thread: I hate the BBC thread 1 thread relating to this forum or members: Where is Elfs thread It would be technically possible to merge all the non-footballing threads, or to lock all the non footballing threads and just start one miscellaneous thread, and have that as the only non-footballing thread on the forum. My personal view is that a single non-footballing thread will be more difficult for members to follow, especially when major / long running current events are being discussed. We could have six, seven or more conversations going on in parallel on the same thread, with gaps of many posts between messages on the same subject.
