Ben Reeves played for an hour in our EFL Cup first round game against Exeter City (8th August) Reeves was an unused substitute against Bristol Rovers (5th August) possibly for PR purposes. Since then he has not been in the match-day 18 for any game. "minor injury" or just not match fit? At the moment it does not seem to be hurting us, like the absence of Mark Marshall. But having a paper thin squad will hurt us as the season goes into the winter months. That I guarantee right now.
It will be good for him to get some playing time under his belt, even if the Checkatrade Trophy is not actually real football anymore. Next best thing I suppose.
Reeves is getting himself match fit Inky (good to have you on this site BTW, it's so much better than ITTV). With Aribo chomping at the bit, we seem to have some depth in Central midfield, and can safely sell Andrew Crofts to Bromley Town when the bid comes in.
I got the impression he wasted the summer waiting for exciting offers, and when he arrived with us wasn't up to speed, and is catching up. At least we were not short in that department, and he'll face a bit of a battle to force his way into the starting 11 as it stands. maybe we should be happy about the Checkatrad trophy letting us give extra minutes to the players lower down the order.
it's a nice headache to have, and as MT says one thats different from last season. He took a calculated risk of seeing what offers were out there for him, and in turn sacrificed a proper pre season. Right now, our midfield is doing the job so it's fortunate that he's had the last few weeks to get up to speed (so many football cliches coming out here) and we don't need to rush him. Things are going a bit too smoothly on the playing side it seems...
Right!!! If Big Mag picks up a injury on NI duty (which is just after window closes) we all know who to blame!
About time he reappeared! If fitness really is the only problem how unfit must he have been when we signed him?
i did wonder this! got to question the mentality of a man who held off signing all summer and then signs on in the last minute. he was spotted with us early summer and then did sod all till the last second. reeks of desperation and that sort of signing is not what we need - he basically waited till every other option was gone before choosing us.
Robinson said 3 weeks ago that Reeves needed a mini-pre season. You could have the debate about why we are signing players who are not fit - I think that debate will kick off if we don't see Reeves at Gillingham on Saturday.
Reeves's mini pre-season has gone on longer than a normal pre-season! This isn't helped by the fact that he plays 60mins in these non-league games and then can't train for a week....you listen to Alan Brazil or Ray Parlour on Talksport and they say that they were always in some pain during the season but continued to play anyway. For god sake... man up Reeves and earn your salary
It is Robinson on advice from the medical team who are not letting Reeves play. This was mentioned by Robinson on one of his interviews. He also mentioned that it was Reeves fault for not signing in May and missing out on a pre season.
"Cheap" is what Duchatlet's likes, but only when it comes to buying. Surely Reeves must be injured - Really poor if he hasn't kept himself fit.
Didn't Reeves complete a pre-season with MK Dons? I am sure I read that somewhere... but ... then again I read somewhere else that he did a lot of running over the summer to keep fit?.... in reality, he probably had a bender in Spain.... that's what I would have done.
