Are our (football league) players forced to take the knee. ?
If I recall the first American sportsmen that took the knee they were attempted to be stopped at first.
But foring people to do or not do gestures is surely counter productive.
Any player in the UK that refused would not be adversely affected on my opinion.
The correspondance on this post leads to me to believe if a player felt pressure and still refused he/she would recieve warm support. Because here in the UK we believe in the right to your own beliefs - so long as you ‘do no harm’. KTF.

Surely that statement can‘t be right ?
Surely if there many who disagree there is NOT ONE prepared to say no.
Just read this post - the support (if you extrapolate these posts out to the general public)would be enormous.
You cannot be suggesting that every footballer is gutless ?

    Quite agree mate. :emoticon-0103-cool:
You take the knee if you feel it is right - you don’t if you feel that too.
Let folk choose their own beliefs and leave them to it. :1980_boogie_down:

Look at the snooker touching elbows !, well to add it is just funny that's all, it is the Government not sports people who should be doing something about it, i have not seen Boris do the kneeling yet either. anyhow just take racism out of the dictionary then it will not exist, take no notice so the idiots who do it are then in their own stupid little world. Jemaine, Martin luther, sammy davis, Sydney poitier, Diana ross the list is huge are all hero's, and NOTHING can change that.

    Why ?
Sorry don’t mean to appear arguementative - but what has touching elbows (or any body part) got to do with our right to make or not make gestures some mean are not relative to a football match.

I don't understand the reasoning behind it when bending the knee is supposed to be a sign of subservience!!

    Of course it's an issue.

If it wasn't an issue people wouldn't be doing.it.

It's the very essence of an issue.

'Taking the knee' if you don't believe in it is as cowardly as it gets imo.

It's not about being gutless, it's about keeping your career.

If 1 player amongst 11 decided not to do it, the press would ruin him. They would no doubt fabricate racist stories involving him and try to turn his black team mates against him.

It could lead to that player falling out of favour with his club and struggling to find another club to take him.

It's career suicide, and no player will risk that.

That is true... if you do something cos you do not what to be got at for not joining in!

But, whether it is football, tennis or F1 there are a lot of black players saying enough is enough...
Sterling... makes some good points, Rashford has another take by speaking up for poor and hungry kids.

Rashford is speaking up for kids of all colours.

If he was white no-one would align it to a racial cause.

There’s actually been a number of players and teams that haven’t done it, and not one of them has been tossed to the lions.

It’s completely optional, and I’d imagine the vast majority of them are in support of change, of equality.

In the US - where this began - the opposite was the case.
Those that took the knee were attacked, ridiculed and threatened by their president no less.
They ‘risked it’. They stood by what they believed to be right.
That strength brought many more to their way of thinking.
Why then wouldn’t footballers do the same - stand up for what they think is right.
As I said earlier the postings on this thread would suggest that they would have substantial backing from the general public.
So I repeat, you are suggesting most if not all of those believe what they are doing is wrong, are cowards.

We are not in the US.

Why would players risk getting hung out to dry by the media, over bending their knee for 10 seconds, wether they agree with doing it or not.

If they choose not to bend the knee, the media will demand from them to know their reasons.

They will then pick holes in the player's reasons and dismantle his career, all in the aim of selling newspapers.
