All the racist abuse that's been dredged up on social media will keep it going for a while yet I would think

Which is fair enough if he so chooses. The national anthem is played before every US major league match whether it be NFL, MLB, NBA etc.

As far as i'm aware the national anthem isn't played before domestic football matches so who are they acually protesting about?

The protest, despite what people are now claiming, was in support of BLM and, therefore, George Floyd. Now that the aims of BLM have become a little less palatable football is saying it's actually just a plea for everyone to play nice. That's not true but it does show that football has turned its back on the original protest.

Gareth Southgate doesn't understand because he's just assumed he knows best and hasn't actually asked anyone why they booed ...

... you're absolutely right, what there needs to be is more debate about why people hold the views that they do.

Perhaps people in positions of influence, like Southgate, should be at the forefront of sensible debate instead of just jumping to conclusions and condemning people without good cause.

I hear what you're saying, however, any kind of 'non-violent phisical' protest gesture should be acceptable to a degree, whether it's a protest march or a slow hand clap.

And therefore, if taking the knee is seen as acceptable by those who choose to participate, then equally, they should also accept non-violent gestures by those who oppose this gesture etc (for whatever reasons) when they choose to either boo, turn their back, or slow hand clap.....if not, isnt that in itself a discrimination?

I think taking the knee will be stopped at some point soon, and probably for the wrong reasons...

Taking up the 'protest' was ill considered, continuing when spectators were allowed back was idiotic ...

... if they stop now they'll be seen as 'backing down to racists' by some people.

That may include BLM which would be quite ironic.

Good point!.....in fact, with that in mind, how can they stop doing it?.......I bet, sometime soon, even those who are feeling indifferent about it, wiil also start tutting at it.

SCOTLAND stars WON'T be taking a knee prior to their Euro 2020 matches.

The Scottish FA have confirmed that they will continue to promote an anti-racist message by standing before matches.

It could be said that the Scottish Nationalist Party with its inherent hatred of the English, is not a good role model. Although the SFA would argue that Mrs Krankie has nothing to do with them.

It could be said that's a racist comment or, at best a sweeping generalisation ...

... which demonstrates just how tricky this area can be.

Krankie's gran was from Ryhope so she must love some of us.

I would like to suggest: STAR

    Stand Together Against Racism

Those that don't wanna stand can do nowt, and others can stand or clap or both while the players stand, lock arms or face the crowd and clap. If kneeling is perceived as a political act linked to the BLM Movement, this ought to be an acceptable gesture, and it is the players choice and sensibly the home ground players choice. This would replace the act without handing a victory or verification to the voice of far right.

I would like to suggest we don't use football as a vehicle for any protests ...

... that would end all the arguments instantly.

People keep saying debate is the only answer, I don't see many players talking tbh.

Why do we need gestures from other people? Can't we just all take it upon ourselves to do what's right?

Call me simplistic but i often feel that if something is media driven there's a hidden agenda.

Teams only using it for attention seeking purposes. Pathetic behaviour.

I think that's the definition of a public protest, to draw attention to a perceived problem.

Southgate has spoken more about taking the knee than football, he should be bigging the team up talking tactics and generally doing his job.
England’s manager is there to pick a team, train the team, motivate the team & find a way of ending almost 60 years of failure. He’s on the telly telling me booing the team taking the knee is wrong ! I personally couldn’t care less about his thoughts I want him to do his job and win a tournament

That's exactly what they are, just governed by England at the moment ...

... you'll have noticed Scotland are playing in the Euros.
