I went to night school to learn about basic motor mechanics (it was sh.it, we learned nothing but chatted a lot) and one bloke on the course was an Ethiopian mini cab driver who was quite proud that he managed to drive around without a working foot brake but managed to do all his stopping using the gears and hand brake. The course tutor admonished him for being so reckless. True story.

Of course you should try and go down the gears to slow your vehicle if appropriate but not as a last resort because you are too cheap to get your f.ucking brakes fixed ffs! If ramming the car into 1st gear and yanking on the handbrake was the best way of stopping a car why the f.uck do you think they make cars with brakes you dimwit?
