I think Bobby Smith spent most of his 20 quid a week at the bookies......and Tommy Lawton was given a couple of benefits after retiring because he was skint. Makes you think,doesn't it?

Yep. For reasons that I can't recall, I stood in The Paxton, to the left of the goal we scored 6 in, during the second half. I haven't done that more than a couple of times in 50 years. The attendance was 26,000, so it wasn't packed. I've tried to spot myself in the MOTD footage...but no success. My overriding memories of the day...discussing that Bristol Rovers were a danger as they'd won by five the week before and shouting "We want 10" as the whistle blew.
