He was played out of position at Peterborough and he was tucked too much on the inside not attacking their left back (who was ****e) once Sam came on we got a lot of success from him attacking the left back. I dont rate Varynen much tbh but thats just because of the role he plays he plays the Kilkenny role and slows play down and tries to pass the ball backwards to the defence all the time defusing our own attacks
Tries to pass the ball? What the hell does Vayrynen think he's playing at? Coming into our team & passing the ball. We can't be having that- it's outrageous! Seriously though,he's a quality player, give him time. Unfortunately though would love to be proved wrong but can see Birmingham nicking this 2-1
Be more positive LIE. Things are actually going our way at the moment so lets take full advantage of that.
Agree with that team selection 18. I think the problem with Varaynun maybe that SG hasn't yet worked out where to play him to the benefit of the team. Snoddy was injured for Saturday, so Vareynun started on the wing. If I'd been selecting the side, I may have chosen to start with Sam. But SG may have decided to keep it tight at the start & therefore preferred to go with Varaynun. Depending on who's available for Wednesday in what should be a hard but winnable game, I can imagine SG starting in the same frame of mind with the same XI that began. He could/should then bring on Sam & Nunez in the 2nd half, & bring on Becchio somewhat earlier than he did at Peterborough. Think we'll sneak a win, but it'll be a tough match. Possibly 2-1.
looks like almunia is going back to arsenal so could get him although hes a bit of liability to say the least. Cant think of many really. Harper has just gone to Brighton i think. yea and i agree boggers, could see SG doin the same sorta tactics especially if snoddy is still injured
Boggers I give Grayson credit tho, he saw the varynen wasn't threatening their weakness (left back) so put Sam on at 50 minutes to attack down that side, I dont think Lloyd sam is very good at keeping Fit hence the reason he never plays 90 minutes for us
You maybe right YNBK. I hope not because if he can't stay fit (injuries aside), why would we want to hang onto him? Its the same reason as we let Andy Robinson go, I think. It could always be that Varynun was on to keep things tight & Sam came on to improve our attacking threat. It certainly was the case that we were much more threatening when Sam (& Nunez) came on. Maybe that was the game plan. Who knows? Either way, 3 more pts.
He was useful at testing the food at the canteen but once we got Paynter in he was surplus to requirements
Going back to Vayrynen for a second, I just watched the extended highlights of the Peterborough game and he actually looked very neat and involved (although I agree he was in central positions too much and probably wasn't like this for the whole 90 minutes). I think his class will show through over time.
Vayrynen was very poor against peterbrough, kept giving the ball away. And who said he was a tough tackler, sliding and missing the ball aint tough tackling. Better than brown though
Robinson certainly wasn't useless. He must have had issues with the Manager at the time & clearly had a weight problem. That said, if he'd kept fit, he was good at spraying the ball around to keep attacks moving in the right direction. Can't say we miss him now. But bringing him on against Peterborough on Saturday after an hour to replace Pugh would again have added to our attacking options. That said, he's history now. So we move forward. Getting Pugh was a master stroke. Side is looking well balanced with a good bench. Only irritating thing about saturday apart from not seeing the game out in the first half was the time it took SG to bring Becchio on. C'est La Vie. We still won
