It will be interesting to see what occurs now, as you rightly name the clubs in previous punishments, all non prem clubs.

I give you the plight of Dover Athletic in the National League during covid, not only could they no longer financially fulfill their fixtures because of the pandemic, but they were hit with a fine they could never pay. They also had all their points stripped from the league and will be relegated. On top of all that, they've been hit with a 12 point deduction for next season. So a hat-trick of punishments, on a club struggling to survive.

I await the FA's consistent and equally harsh punishment of the big six, yeah right!

I don't think any punishment is fair on the fans of those clubs..

I don't see any benefit in punishment.

    Just force the yanks out

They should punish Tottenham because they have the only fan in England who supported this idea

This nicely sums up the last 48 hours and maybe even the last year or so.

The obvious one is to ban them from European football next season since that is what they wanted to bin off in favour of the SL .
Note this punishment would be the same for all 12 ,

I think as fans were have to take whatever punishment they dish out but it's **** on us the fans and the playing squads who had nothing to do with it. It would be difficult but to me it's the people responsible who need to be punished.

Almost certainly. There’ll be some sort of forfeit for withdrawal within that 177 page contract, as there has to be, as the entire project relied on those clubs acting as one and not bottling it.

The initial comments early last night of clubs saying they were withdrawing and then going quiet unite late on, suggests that they’d be made aware of the penalty clauses for withdrawal imo.

Now the entire thing has crumbled, I suppose whether those clauses are now acted upon legally or not, will depend on 2 things. Firstly whether any party has suffered any significant tangible loss as a result of this, and secondly whether they fancy just filling their boots at the expense of the clubs who willingly signed a legally binding contract, then ran away.

If Wigan got a 12 point deduction for sending one club into administration, how many points do they deserve for trying to send 86 clubs into administration?

And Chelsea as their manager is the only one who didn;t slag it off.
Tuchel is a traitor to football.

    It is fair.

Saints fans didn’t have a say in administration
    Wigan fans didn’t
    Bury didn’t

etc etc. Yet these clubs were brutally handicapped with points deductions. We nearly went out of business. Some have.

What the spineless six did is MUCH worse

I’m with @Libby with regards to the punishment for these clubs. Whilst I empathise with these clubs supporters who didn’t want this, you can’t just let it go because any punishment will potential affect the fans enjoyment for a span.

As has been pointed out there’s been numerous drastic punishments handed out over the years for far less egregious acts than this. Which was essentially a collection of clubs who created an entirely new breakaway league behind the backs of all of the authorities without a single **** being given for the consequences for the game. Let’s be right, this wasn’t just some ****ty idea that was floated, off the back of some potential plan, these ****s actually committed to it legally, opened a new company to run it, and had funding in place. You can’t just let that go without severe sanction.

Perez has reportedly already said that the group should stick together and continue to push for change. We know what means, as we know what they want, and football can’t just sit back and allow this to potentially happen again.

So for me, 2 things needs to happen, firstly they all get a UEFA sanction, this was primarily about them coming up with a closed shop alternative to the CL, so it’d be fitting if they were excluded from it for a year, and they can take the revenue, commercial and matchday losses and shove it right up their collective arses.

Secondly, the European FA’s and UEFA need to tighten their rules on plotting in this manner, clubs found to working on new league ideas that do not form part of the collective organisations plans or that aren’t aired first via the appropriate channels, should result in an exclusion from all European competitions for a longer spell, say 3-5 years, and domestically would result in automatic relegation or expulsion from the league.

I’m afraid using the ‘it’ll hurt the fans’ line or that these clubs are somehow too important to sanction, plays to the exact narrative that they’ve been banking on. So it’s a ‘**** ‘em hard’ from me.

Why is it fair that the very fans that stood up to stop the end of English domestic football for the good of us all be punished?

    I don't understand that.

Just make a change to prevent this super league ****e ever resurfacing and try to get rid of the people involved

I don't really get the "punishing the fans thing",no one can attend games at the moment so that's not a loss,no one has booked an away trip in Europe as no draw is made so no loss there, just saying.

I doubt it was a few flares and homemade placards that drove the change of heart.

I think it was actually along with the likes of Bayern etc not joining them.

It all played a part, so punishing the fans seems unfair to me that's all.

Making the right changes is always a better solution than punishment in my opinion

Did you read my Dover comment?

Their fans were punished simply because the club could not afford to play during the pandemic.

The fans were subject to the following...

    1. Heavy fine, which the fans set up Fund page to raise the money.
    2. Stripped of all points and there by relegated.
    3. 12 points deduction for the start of next season.

Is that fair, the supporters stood up for their club and the good of football, but it didn't get them any goodwill in return!
