I agree about wengers arsenal. Especially the early years. We were doing nothing around that time mid table mainly but they were a joy to watch for the most part, Thierry Henry for me is the pls best ever forward.
He was truly boss. Loved Big Les, in the flesh his spring and his heading ability was second to none, and he wasn’t that tall iirc, about 5’ 10”?
Sir les was a very good striker.. One of the best... Kinda didn't get the credit he deserved. 6 million we paid.. Jesus compare that to Joelinton at 40
That Arsenal side in its pomp was something we’d simply never seen before in England. They were great to watch and I’d go out of my way to watch them when they were on the box back then.
Henry Pires overmares, viera and Bergkamp? To think wor Bobby managed to give them a run for their money with Robert Bellamy and an old Shearer.
Perhaps one of Englands best ever sides, and without a doubt one of the best sides in the prem era. I could watch Henry all day tbh even now he takes my breath away whe I see old clips. Ashley Cole too, hated by loads after going to the chavs and doing the durty on tweedy but he was easily one of the besy lbs I've seen. Fantastic player imo. Theres loads of em I begrudgingly had respect for even when they were burying us. Terry Stam Rooney Drogba - fukin hated that diving **** but he was some player. Just gotta hold ya hands up and applaud some talents sometimes
Yeah, with Petit and the old skool back 4 of Winterburn, Dixon, Adams and Keown. They were different class. Many would argue Wenger reaped the benefits of defensive rigidity ultimately left by George Graham, and he never managed to replicate it once that backline finally retired. I remember watching them do us 7-1 at Highbury and a middle aged bald Blue ran on the pitch and wanted Nyarko to give him his shirt as he reckoned he could do a better job lol.
Arsenal had been in the wilderness a while before that happened too. They litterally had one summer signing those players I mentioned and turned into something frightening.. I think their fans forgot that when they started chasing out the very manager that got them back to the top. Similar to what happened here with Bobby they blamed the wrong person
