My grandad fought in WWI and lived through the Great Depression and the Blitz, so no. But here’s the point; my parents had it better than my grandparents, thanks mostly to trade unions and the labour movement. My generation had it pretty good also. My son’s generation? Not so much…

The doom goblin's put your food bill up.

Food crisis horror as UK 'wasting' enough to feed 3.5 million by using land for FUEL

A new analysis warned that the UK could significantly dent this global hunger by ending the use of biofuel, which uses enough crops to feed 3.5 million people.

Biofuel, which is energy produced from burning plant biomass, uses nearly three-quarters as much land as the entire UK potato industry.

Experts warned that using up food crops as biofuel is a strong factor in rising food prices in the UK due to increased competition for land.

The report also warned that a 10 percent target for biofuels in transport fuel is responsible for driving petrol prices up too, and is expected to cost consumers £23billion over the next decade.

In a statement, Mr Benton said:: "Using cereal crops to fuel cars hasn't ever been good for the climate.

"At a time when Russia's war threatens people in less developed countries with starvation, it's indefensible to keep increasing biofuel use.

"Acting alone, the UK reducing its biofuel use could lower the impact of the war in Ukraine on global hunger by at least a quarter.

"If the UK acts alongside its international partners, halving crop-based biofuels could free up enough grain to offset all of Ukraine's exports.

A 42-year-old man has been arrested and charged with murder, attempted murder and terrorist acts after a shooting in the centre of Norway's capital, Oslo.

Two people died and 21 were wounded early on Saturday in what police called an "act of Islamist terrorism".

The shootings were in and near the London Pub, a popular LGBTQ+ venue, the Herr Nilsen jazz club and another pub.

Norway's prime minister told the BBC the suspect was questioned in May, but was not deemed a threat at the time.

'Not on course for victory!' Trevor Phillips shuts down David Lammy's Labour celebrations

Mr Phillips replied: "Well it's great in theory isn't it and I think you'll acknowledge there that the chances of that happening nationally, in every constituency, don't look so good.

For example, Tiverton, you came second there in 2017 and 2019.

"This time, the Conservatives were defeated largely because you lost your deposit.

"It doesn't look to me that, from these results, that actually you are on course for that victory."

Mr Phillips said: "You said that Labour had lent the Liberal Democrats their vote which presumably means at a general election they intend to cash those votes in and take them back.

"You're essentially saying, and basically everyone who is expert in this agrees, what we saw this week was a return of tactical voting."

    Getting tied up in Notts.

Council axes talk by feminist writer because of her views on trans rights

Ms Bindel, a veteran activist who is gay, wrote on Twitter: “I was asked to speak to (predominantly working class/young) women about feminist activism to end male violence in Nottingham. The event was sold out very quickly, and was due to take place at @NottmLibraries.

“Just now, we have been informed that the talk is cancelled. Why? Because misogynistic men’s rights activists (masquerading as supporters of trans rights) have badgered and harassed the venue to the point where they could take no more inconvenience.”

Ms Bindel said the event would go ahead on the street outside the venue.

Labour don't need an outright majority. They only need to do better than about 260 seats. Add the SNP with 50+ and the Lib Dems with 20 or so and Tubs de Pfeffel is right up **** Creek in a barbed wire canoe. If he loses 50 he's history with a reputation of being a failed PM on a scale not seen since Lord North.
