Is he a character, a Boruc-type odd-ball the game could with more of - or is he one of the biggest disgraces ever to pull on a Saints shirt ?. I`m curious what you think.

Bruce was OK, and I do see similarities between Him and Artur. I think Boruc is already the better keeper, and I think, quietly underneath it all he might be slightly more unhinged..! :)

He was a reasonable goalkeeper. My favourite 'weirdo' was John Burridge. I got to know him pretty well for a while. He was actually a fantastic bloke but just slightly nutty.

It's said though that he wasn't that keen on the club. Which kind of put me off Budgie.

Greedy bastard. I always find his accidental penalty save for Liverpool against Norwich amusing. Also that he tried to throw a game for Southampton against Coventry by letting the ball roll through his legs, only for Saints to smash three past them anyway.

Wrong, he trained like crazy. I used to shoot balls at him on a rock hard surface and he would still be diving full length. He was a 'professional footballer' which means that he went to whoever would pay him but really that could be said about the majority of players. Most of them don't get the opportunity to play for their 'dream team'. But he tried as hard here as was possible. He liked a drink though, but who didn't back then?

Budgie was at Aberdeen for a while - he wasn`t wired up right either.
As for Grobbelaar, he`s a disgrace - how could a player face his team-mates knowing he`d thown a game ?

I'm not knocking his commitment at all. He made some odd remarks about the club though which put me off him a bit. As I've said before though, I'm not the typical football fan who considers a player to be either **** or superb, and I'd be entirely happy to be wrong in my opinion of Budgie. By the way, please DON'T ask me to remember the reported derogatory remarks he made about the club. They'd have been made over 20 years ago. :)

When I was young and in Brucey's heyday I thought I spotted him at the fair. I was on the waltzer and every time we went past where he was stood I shouted "Brucey". It obviously wasn't him in hindsight, but that didn't spoil the moment.

Budgie allegedly used to take a bag of oranges in his case on away journeys for his room mate to the wo around the room at him so he could dive and save them. His pre-match warm up was always entertaining.

Motherwell usd to have a keeper called Hugh Sprott who always wore a blue jersey against Celtic and a green one against Rangers. Loopy.

I actually met Brucie the day before he was arrested - there's a photo of me with him and I have a brown envelope in my hand. One of my favourite pics!
