Thanks for doung all this Joe and I trust he got a good send off today RIP Hurly 'spirit in the sky' Burly.
Dearest Not606 Posse Thank you so much for the amazing gesture in remembering my Burly! The memory ribbons were put together by me and our daughter. BH and I had a joke last September, he thought it would be funny to make everyone wear the Sunderland scarf to his funeral. We knew that wouldn't happen. So when I set about fulfilling his wishes for his Day, I came up with the idea of the memory ribbon (all hand "macked and tacked" with a red safety pin) as you all have kindly put up as your temporary avatar. It represents his beloved Sunderland and the scarf. On BH's Day, everyone wore the ribbon with pride! (the basket with the ribbons shown below) please log in to view this image My Burly had a great send off on Tuesday.. the crematorium was so full, it was amazing and humbling to see. BH had written his own "Tribute to All", read out by a close family friend from Sunderland.. there were roars of laughter and waves of tears. I too, donning the mackem scarf and pin (I found in his bedside drawer), stood up to the lectern and belted out my own reflections and poems of my BH. Unconventional yes but I was proud to have done it. The children did the same and his best friend and brother for over 30 years brought the house down with his tribute. The local golf club he was a member of had their flag at half mast. Truly humbling. Later at the pub, I stood up on a wobbly stool, held up a full pint of Guinness, shouted out some more memories and cracks, and made the toast he wanted. Yes lads and lasses, I down that pint of Irish nectar in one go!!! Ha'Waaay the Lads!! With our best wishes from the BH family, Mrs Burly Hurly (the only!) xx
Burley was one of the original on here, many have come and gone Thankfully he graced us with the presence on the Prem board also. Which is a diiferent cocept to here.. Here was his footy talk, and his love of SAFC. The Prem board was his release imo. Massive loss to both boards, a genuine diamond.
Talking about originals, I had a few beers with the lad who went by the name Flash the Mackem before the Blackpool game..
He is mate.. he organised a get together with Sunderland and Blackpool fans, where we had a pre match pool tournament to raise funds for the Bradley Lowrey Foundation.. and what a cracking afternoon/evening it was. p.s. I have been to see your marra's band tonight..
Must be about 8 years since he posted? Any crack with Gary? We'll get round to it one day mate. I'll check his gig list next week.
Wow, that's going back circa 2005/06 when I joined the old 606, I remember him well, he worked in finance management for small businesses. Was a good poster that lad like a lot back then. First remember you from there too RAW..
I didn't have a clue that it was him until I brought up meeting some cracking lads from this forum.. When he said who his username was and I told him mine we had a good laugh about it..
I remember you well Vince from back then. I think me and @MrRAWhite finally met and had a beer back in 2011. Sandymackem (Blunham, Burly) was around then, Gucci, Smug, Bart and a few others from here now. Lot of water gone under the bridge since then in people's lives and in football terms..
You thinking of the Red n White lad from Darlo, he was the hat man, who's bird was a Sunderland fan as well. He was from London iirc and got into Sunderland because of his bird but was a hammers fan. He had some beef with Cest back in the day, they were up for a straightener..
Doesn't surprise me mate ha! Hope alls good with you and the family and love from me and the girls as always.. Lollie still asks about ya but I tend to avoid this board now for reasons. Drop in if and when you are in York next..
